I must admit my cards do tend to have plenty on them, I have not mastered the knack of doing the simple but elegant look. Have tried but have ended up going back and then adding to it.

My cardmaking has changed a lot over the years. The earlier ones make me cringe, l would cover them in bits but not now. l am always forgetting to take pics of my cards so put none on my pictrail last year. l have managed to put some on now but only a few are recent ( thanks to Nancy)...Dot

I try to make my creations look real classy like with just one or two painfully and precisely placed bits ... but invariably take it all apart and obliterate any chance of simplicity with loads of stuff ... it isn't half fun though...

I really like less is more when someone else is making them - just can't achieve it myself and like lots on my cards and always have to embellish with something.

I am definitely a more is more and even more is better girl lol!!! I always love other people's less is more kind of cards but when I make a card I always seem to get carried away. I just love lots of glitter, flowers, feathers, anything with a bit of bling too

I would agree that there is a place for all and it depends on who the card is for. A well executed card is just that whatever the style. There was a quote I came across recently which has stayed with me - about being artistic - knowing how to put things together etc but the true artist knows when to stop. There are some cards that scream out to being simple but there are others which ask to be embellished further and after all not all art lovers like the same paintings but can appreciate...

dawn biddy says that, less is more. i dont think so. although i am a great fan of dawn, i can say that i am getting more and more clever at my card making and i am only repeating what other people say when they see my cards. they have all been with me when i first started making cards 2 years ago and now see what kind of cards i am making. i think i am in the position to criticise some cards i see on the tv. dawn can make cards in a few minutes. mine take days. i would not give anyone a card...

I go for the 'less is more' on the whole. Very occasionally I go wild and add a bit more. I don't like verses in cards because they are always so 'gushy'. I prefer them left blank or with a simple 'Happy Birthday' or whatever the greeting is for the occasion. Hazel

Now, I am learning to do the opposite to less is more! More layers etc - haven't quite got to the loads of glitter stage etc. yet, (although I do like my clear sakura!)

I must admit when I used to buy cards - never bought the OTT cards - always preferred to buy the simple clean and elegant cards, although having said that verses were always a big deciding factor.

Obviously looking at all the different cards there are for sale in shops - no two people like the same...

I just think it depends on the card you're doing. Clean and elegant are lovely for weddings and anniversaries, Kiddies cards, the more fluffy , twinkly and embellished the better, At least that's what I've found xx

well obviously I only make restrained contemporary - very sparse cards - me add too much to a card - oh i don't think so ....

ok ok .. so I do .... all the time ... I admit it

i do try with less is more cards but I fail miserably ....

I definitely have a problem of knowing when to stop adding on that extra little bit or two and feel uneasy leaving blank spots. I've always said if I were to sell my cards professionally I'd use the name Bling It On. Because I've been sending cards to family and friends for four years now they are beginning to expect this overloaded style from me and It's become my trade mark. My son can't believe how many layers I build up on cards sometimes. I don't think either...

I solved that problem by doing both! Some cards have lots of embellishments, others, especially the black and white ones, I don't put much on. I think you get to know when to stop! Mind you, I do love glitter!!

'Less is More' - discuss!

I know many people say 'less is more' but I seem to think 'but more is even better!'. I just can't resist that extra flower, ribbon, glitter etc.. Does anyone else have this problem? I have made a few scrapbook pages with just about all the bling I can find on them, in the hope I will be more restrained in my card making, but it hasn't worked!
