Please please dont use that black mat with your cuttlebug, I know of many people on other forums who have broken their machine using it.

The official position from Provocraft is that the bug is not designed for stencil embossing. As crafters we're always looking for ways to get more from
our equipment and this mat is one of those, trouble is the bug is prone to breaking when under pressure and this will put it under pressure. If you really
must use it for stencils then use the...

Having recently purchased a Cuttlebug for our card making club, I was interested in using stencils. I came across this on the forum, so went home and cut a
soft mousemat to the size of the cuttlebug plates, A,B &C. Hey presto, I acheived super results without any extra cost. It makes sense to use what you have
lying around in the house.

You also get a good crisp impression if you spray the back of the card lightly with paper-glide or water. Didn't know about staggering the plates - will
try it, as it is a bit of a tight fit otherwise.
BTW, I bought a Wizard embossing mat before the cuttlebug ones came out (got mine from Oyster stamps) and now I've cut it up so that the pieces are just a
bit smaller than the stencils -that way i don't get a border around the impression. Guess a rubber mouse mat could be...

June is right. Even with the correct black Cuttlebug embossing mat you have to edge the plates through in a staggered fashion and then it is easier.

I think that direction should come with the mat.
