well I say keep calm and don't do what i did and argue with the instructor about the best route to take - I told him there was a big delivery at a local
pub at the time we were doing the test so there would be a long hold up - he was miffed and said go where I tell you too and yep - there was the beer barrel
delivery (I knew !) so I did my 3 point turn a little early and went the other way and yes I passed!
Lots of luck - loads of practising and keep calm - there's always another day! smiles Joanna |

I was told to eat a Mars bar, as the sugar helps to calm any nerves. Wasn't something I could face at 8am!
Good luck with the test Patsy |

I was so nervous when I took mine that my clutch leg was visibly shaking and I couldn't stop it! I tried to have a joke with the examiner about hearing my
bones shake but he wasn't amused. Needless to say I failed the first one. The second time I told myself it is just another lesson with someone I
haven't driven with before, it isn't the end of the world and I can always do it again. I was as calm as can be and sailed through the test. The second
examiner took time to find out my first name and tried to put me at my ease before we started and I think that made all the difference!

oh thanx ladies, i have put by funds to extend my lessons if i need to n if i don't i shall treat pete n DS to meal out, but shhh don't tell em. lol.
i know i have the ability as john my instructor is positive i'm ready n it was him who pushed me to do my theory which i passed with the proverbial flying colours, much to my delight. and that gave me aboost, n i've had 4 more lessons since then n i've visibly improved since then too, it's the confidence thing, n i sometimes try to do what i think john would n he then reminds me i'm driving n should drive like me not anyone else. i was needing some little sheenies words of wisdom n light hearted tales to calm me, it's working too!!! thanx again, much appreiciated. chell x |

Good luck with the test Chell. Just don't do what a friend did on her test.......
reversed into a parked police car on her way out of the test centre! Eunicex |

I put this on the Good Morning thread but I'll repeat it here in case you didn't see it.
Chell, I still remember my driving test of many years ago (and I did pass first time much to my own surprise) and the wise words of my driving instructor. 1) Just imagine everyone else on the road is an idiot. 2) If you make a mistake put it right sensibly. 3) Do you know how to work the windscreen wipers? (I didn't and it was raining so he left them switched on for when I started the car and we prayed it didn't stop raining during the test!!!) Ali xx |

When I was learning to drive, one of the examiners was notorious for being really grumpy and miserable. Who do you think I got for my my
test.................yes, old grumpy guts! He failed me on my first test. Then when I was in the waiting room for my second test I was praying it wasn't
him again, but who walked out into the room and called my name? Yes, old grumpy guts again and my heart sank. Thankfully, he passed me second time, and
actually cracked his face with a smile at the end!
But all that was a
looooong, loooong time ago.

wow so long ago. Was coming up a very steep hill when a duck and ducklings crossed in front of me. I stopped, let them go and started again without giving it
a thought. Now if I had been asked to do a hill start, would probably have gone back a few inches. My late husband was a driving examiner at one point in his
career. Some of the tales he told me were hilarious. When they are trained they are told they must not be over familiar with the candidate, in case it
distracted them. He was hugged, kissed, and sworn at all in a morning. Some tests he had to take over, or both he and the candidate would have been killed. In
the end he opted for checking heavy goods vehicles tachographs etc. Less strain on the nerves.

oh thank you ever so much ladies,
ali i did see it on the other thread, thank you, n as my first lesson was in torrential rain i know where the wipers are, but after about 8 lessons i did have to ask about headlights as all my lessons up to then had been during the day or 5pm ish when john picked me up so the lights where already on! my butterflies have abated somewhat, n it really is a confidence thing for me, i know i can drive n it'll be about my ability on the day, saying safe n driving safely is my priority everytime i get in the car anyway, i don't wind-up easily, so the nutters i get behind me stay there as long as i can make them! chell x |
