I think I am well off...... well, not as well off as I was in the UK, but well off in real terms.....

So, nothing like what we had in theUK - no plane for example, but a far better pace of life.

My family felt rich when the council built a very silly little porch outside the back door which led to another door so that the outside loo could now be
called an inside one!
But I felt well off the day I got my first car........ a 1966 mini which cost me £25! I thought it was the bees knees! C xx |

We thought we were well off and the bee's knees when we moved house in the mid/late 70s and chose to put in an avocado bathroom suite and psychadelic
wallpaper in avocado, purple and puce!

I guess I felt like we were well off when we got a colour tv, no-one else in my school had one and I remember my nan used to come and look at it for a while
and then say she would go back to her own room and watch the proper one! No idea how my mum managed to get it but we loved it.

Well off and Ancient all at once | ||
|
I though I was well off and ancient all at once. I had just bought my first flat at 21 and was decorating it with my Dad. The little boys across the landing
came to my door for Halloween. I had nothing in the house and as I was in the middle of wallpapering the livingroom, I had two pound coins and gave them one
each as I had no other change ... the little boys were overjoyed to have such riches and not knowing my name, in best Scots patter said "Awh, thanks very
much Missus". As I closed the door my face must have been a picture, my Dad laughted for half an hour because I was so horrified that as well as now
being a home ower, I was a Missus!!!
Caroline And my shower room was an awful pink toilet and sink with a turquoise shower cubical! If that wasn't bad enough the house we moved into when we got married then had the avacado suite with daisy tiles in avacado with bamboo edging!!!!! We changed it to white! |

i thought we were well off when we got a mortgage, but we did buy our house from the coalboard, and it cost us just under £4,000

Our first house, a semi, was £3000, but we went mad and had loads of extras like real wooden doors, fitted wardrobes, tiling etc which pushed the price up to
£3395! Felt like a huge mortgage! We couldn't afford the detached houses nearby. They were nearly £5000!
We couldn't afford stair carpet at first, so we had a book of carpet samples and had a different colour on each tread! We thought we were "cool"!

I thought I was 'well-off' whenafter a lousey marriage, divorce and 4 years on my own I met my new husband to be.
We talked for hours sat outside in car, then he phoned me next morning from call box (didn't know at the time) and we talked for 3 1/2 hours!!! It must have cost him a fortune pushing 10p coins in! That was over 25 years ago. He's now my soul mate and best friend, Christine xxx |

I suddenly became rich, when in 2000 i became disabled. The reason, my husband. He is worth his weight in gold.
Apart from that ditto to what everyone else has said Luv Jen |

I'll go with what many others have said - ohhh the poshness of it all - avocado bathroom - I had died and gone to heaven - then had one with a suite called
Sunking I think it was a sort of washed out peachy colour and knew that I was a real high flyer - then (roughly) my mortgage was £14 a month I think ....
happy days eh? |
