am sitting here with 4 brand new colour ink cartridges. Printer is HP DESKJET 940c, my "golden oldie". None of the cartridges will register,(light is flashing for no ink) won't align , clean or print a test page. Have a warning on screen that says Colour cartridge problem, remove and replace. have done that umteen times, and nothing, have unplugged and left for 10 minutes, still no joy. They're the same ink thingys I always use, can anyone suggest anything (apart from open the window and bung) please? Jacqui xx

Uninstall and then re-install?..............I had one of these printers and it was brilliant....did everything I wanted it too, but it 'broke'. I
found it was just a 'tad greedy'
 .(posh way of saying I
couldn't afford to keep buying cartridges for it)  ..........sounds like it was the same problem as your'e having, I ended up buying another one but this one has the single colours. Sorry I couldn't be more help

How about trying uninstall and then re-install the printer Joacqui? Have you tried that? I had the same printer till a few months ago.

Jacqui it could be dud cartridges it does happen sometimes.
We had Everest rep come a couple of months ago with his expensive Computer and portable printer, would it print properly? No it wouldn't, would only print the colour and not the black. He put 3 new black cartridges in and still nothing. He told us later he had taken them all back to PC World and they were all duff ones, put another new one in and it printed no problem So just a thought, hope you get it sorted. |

This may sound very silly Jacqui and I don't mean to insult your inteligence, but have you taken the seals off, my OH put a new battery in the smoke alarm
yesterday and wondered why it wouldn't work, it still had the seal on,

Thanks ladies. I have 4 different cartridges from 3 different companies, all with the seals off.
 None of them will work.
Back to the grindstone. p.s. sil has been. He can't get it to work either.

Have you tried cleaning the chips on the cartridges Jacqui? I had this problem at work and was about to throw the printer out of the window when my boss came
in, wiped the chips on his Tshirt and the blooming thing worked straight away lol

We've had that with a HP 950c. They are dud cartridges if you get the message to say colour cartridge problem. Definately contact the company you bought
them from and ask for a replacement. Darn nuisance but nothing else you can do.

had the same problem with the same printer before I got rid of it! Got sick of it only taking HP cartridges and if I used anything else it wouldn't accept
them! Complaining to manufacturer of said cartridges got me a new set - with the same result! I gave up and now have a 3 in one Brother (but I use my HP
scanner as the scanner on the brother is pants!!). Hugs Janet
PS Let us know if you solve the problem -might help a lot of us to use non-specific inks. |

Jacqui, this is the same printer I have got and we sometimes get this up when we put in equivalent cartridges or when my husband fills the black cartridge.
What my husband seems to do to get it to work is open the lid and blow hard into where the cartridge sits before putting the cartridge in. Make sure you push
it in well and this should hopefully work. Let me know if you want me to ask hubby anything else.

I've had this for ever and it's a brilliant printer. I only bought the proper cartridges when I first bought it,
I couldn't afford to keep up with them so always use compatibles, with no problem whatsoever. I'll give them a "blow" as suggested, and
don't like to sound thick, but where's the CHIP? do you mean the shiny coppery thingy down the back? I thought you weren't meant to touch ? Even
the one that WAS working now won't, it's SO frustrating! thanks ladies xx
TIMBO, 2 I had in the drawer, someone recommended a different company, and now I can't remember where I got them from.............must be an age thingy!! am pretty sure it's the printer, surely 3 different makes can't ALL be duds?
