Posts: 1714 (27/04/2008 22:58:53) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Hi all Just wondering if you have a little ritual during a thunderstorm, ever since i can remember my mum has made us switch off the tv and all the plugs apart from the fridge lol (setting all the videos and clocks again is a right pain lol), and my mum said the my grandma covered all the mirrors too, does anyone else do this or are we just strange lol Nicxx

Certain things can be damaged by lightning tv is one of them. But I think is the luck of the draw. My mum was always terrified of storms and she used to hide in the darkest place in the house, namely the cupboard under the stairs, bless her! Adele x

Years ago we used to open a window if we opened a door to watch the storm! To let the lightening out if it came in! My Gran used to hide the cutlery, and cover any metal ornaments, brasses. My Mum is terrified of storms and used to hide in the pantry, poor thing. When my son was a baby I was holding him when pink lightning? came through the room, split into two and lit up the mirror with one half and the brasses (which rattled) we used to have on the wall with the other half, either side of us! I often wonder what would have happened if they had not been there, also it must have been weaker or dissipating? Never understood it, but someone was watching over us that day! I love to watch storms though! Fantastic sight. We used to get some really big storms in France! Haven't been there when there was one for a while now. love elaine xx

We actually had the phone line burn out here a few years back: the electricity transformer up the lane was struck and blew up, taking our phone line with it. That was some noise!! I often sit up and watch storms at night- the house has 360 degree views and storms are spectacular. Judy C

I used to be terrified until one night we had a storm really close and the lightening put on such an amazing show I was mesmerised and decided to capture as many storms on camera as possible.

We turn off the computer and the telly while there's a storm on because we usually get a power cut. My Nan used to cover up mirrors and put away anything metal before she hid in the cellar. A few years ago during a thunderstorm, a bolt of lightning struck near some houses and anyone with a computer on had them ruined. So I don't take any chances despite surge protectors as well. I do open a window somewhere in the house to let the lightning out if it comes in That stems from a story heard told in my childhood days, and I've never forgotten it. Apparently a bolt of lightning shot down a chimney, had nowhere to go and scooted round the room zapping everything Dunno how true it is mind. I have been known to cover mirrors though, but we don't get too many visual thunderstorms here, thank goodness. Susan
