Think I've made a big mistake as it seems to be for people who haven't done any card making at all. The ladies are all lovely and I'm so afraid of appearing a "know-it-all", though I did make an exploding box, which is something I'd not got round to before. However the few materials and equipment provided meant it was a bit of a marathon. If I go next week I think I'll take my own paper trimmer and bits and pieces, but if I do that I might as well stay at home. (See, I DO sound like I know it all!) I was hoping to learn sme new techniques and make some friends, but no one seemed interested in going for a coffee afterwards. I came home with a stinking headache and feeling as though I'd done a hard day's work, so I consoled myself with a mug of coffee and the HUGE last piece of my birthday cake! Now that doesn't do my diet any good! P.S. The teacher hadn't even heard of Kanban, so is there any hope?!! This is Sylvia Grumpynicks signing off, fat and fed-up. XXX

At least I didn't lose money.

All I can say is give it another week and see how it goes. I think the first week is difficult for students to mix together.( I did make friends and we had a laugh) The one`s I went to were in the evening, so I suppose people didnt have to rush off to collect children, do dinner etc.If its the first card making course. It can be really basic.. I went at the begining of card making so I learnt as I went on.Maybe they wont be able to offer what you are looking for on this particular course.We have one at the moment which has an exam at the end, Seriously thinking of going . Wishing you well whatever you do. Val X P.S Did they say on the course jargon as to what you will be doing??

Went to a course at my local craft store and felt a bit of a know it all. The lady was from Sakura but as I'd seen her on C&C so many times......she was also using Joanna's cd's, and I have most of them. Pity they don't grade the classes, beginner/intermediate etc. I used to go to beading classes and if you didn't take your own tools etc you'd be up and down all day. So I'd drag a huge tool box full all my bits and bobs. I fancy parchment craft and my sister keeps saying she'd like to try it too. Strange nobody wanted a coffee after. That's part of the fun, making new friends. Hope its gets better for you next week. Jan x

The teacher spent 10 minutes at the beginning photocopying instructions for the exploding box and then everyone stated packing-up 15 minutes before the end of the lesson! I really think That folks would learn more by watching C&C and joining in this forum. I'm sorry for sounding so negative, Sylvia x

Why would you pack up early? Do they think they are still in school lol ) Odd the teacher didn't have everything ready beforehand. Exploding box was quite a brave iproject if there were a lot of newbies though. Never mind. Perhaps she was just off to an awkward start and it will pick up and get better. Hope so Jan x

I went to one here it was a year's course with a certificate at the end of it. We learnt a different technique every week and it was free at first The second year was only about £20. I know what you mean about the equipment provided. better to take your own Hope eih it improves or you find a better course Carole

I was introduced to a lovely one by another Sheenie. It doesn't matter what level you are at. Everyone helps each other out and you have a good chat whilst crafting. Everyone shares equipment too. If you say what part of the country you live someone may know of a club there. Good luck. Wanda

Posts: 7903 (24/09/2007 17:40:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	What a disappointment - maybe when everyone gets to know each other a bit more, it will become a bit more friendly, and maybe swapping ideas will become more easy - also, at a group I used to co-ordinate, everyone put their suggestions as to what we were going to do the next time - lots of requests for demo's re different techniques, equipment - even a discussion on what ink pads were used for what purpose. Stick with it for a couple more times, and it might improve.
