Abbreviations TMB = Top Menu Bar.
Small images around 400 pixels are easier to manipulate.
1. Open your image in PSP8. Copy it TMB>Window>New Window. Close your original image.
2. If you wish to use only part of the image. Left-side toolbar >Selection>Rectangle. Draw round the area you want to use and TMB>Edit>Copy. TMB>Edit>Paste as a new image
3. TMB>Effects>Image Effects>Seamless Tiling.

Set Dialogue box as follows:- Tiling Method = Corner: Direction = Bi-directional: Offsets = 0: Transition = 50: Corner Style = Linear. Click on OK. You can play around with these to get different effects.
4. Look at the far right of your screen and you should see the Materials Palette and two TV screens (my terminology). Click on the top TV screen. Materials dialogue box opens. Click on the pattern tab at the top of the dialogue box. (Important make a note of the figures in the Angle and Scale little boxes so you can retype these numbers back in the boxes when you finish).
5. Click on the pattern in the top left of the dialogue box. A lot of patterns will drop down and you should be able to see your image on the top row. Click on your image. Click on OK at the bottom of the dialogue box. Your image should now have been transferred to the top TV in the materials palette.
6. Open a New Image TMB File>New. Use the following settings:- Image Dimensions - Width 588 .... Height 832 .... Resolution 28.000 .... Units Pixels .... Pixels/cm .... Check-Raster Background .... Check-Transparent .... Colour depth- 16 million. Click on OK You have created a blank document.

7. Left-side tool bar. Click on the Flood Fill Tool (paint can) Click the paint can over your new blank document Your sheet is made.

8. If the design on your sheet is too big. Click on the Material Palette top TV and when the material dialogue box opens click on the Pattern Tab and lower the Scale number. You can also alter the angle number to rotate your design.

9. To fade the background sheet you can TMB>Adjust and alter the colour/hue/saturation.etc.
10. To print your sheet. TMB>File>Print Layout drag your image across to the blank page. You will be asked if you want to scale it. Click OK Pull the corners of your image until it fills the A4 sheet,
11. If you wish to save your sheet. TMB>File>Export>JPEG Optimiser. The JPEG Optimiser dialogue box opens. You can see two pics of your background sheet. Look underneath the one on the right and you will see COMPRESSED .. (and a figure). This should be between 70,000 and 100,000. Change the SET COMPRESSION VALUE figure so the figure underneath the pic on the right is between 70,000 and 100,000. (Any bigger and your sheet will take up more space on your computer). Click on OK.
12. Save to MY PICTURES, I have a separate folder for the sheets I save.
13. Re-type the scale and angle figures you wrote down at Item Four.
14. Dont worry about messing up the settings. TMB>File>Preferences>Reset Preferences will return the programme to the original factory settings.
