A new shopping mall in the city centre which has taken 2.5 years to construct. I think its just a ploy to keep John Lewis in the city centre. Anyway, it looks like an army barrack - no character and the same old shops are going in there. So disappointing. Then went to LAKELAND who have been closed for 2 weeks for refurbishment and they NO LONGER HAVE A CRAFT SECTION! Was told - you will have to order on line or find another shop!! Not that I get much from there, but they do have the odd little things that are useful. So came home wet and disgruntled!! Jan

I did know about lakeland, its a shame, I used to go there at lunchtime if I had a bad day in the office (which is quite often) so it will probably save me money. Dont like the new John Lewis either. Hope you find some crafty shops in Whitby to make up for it. Sharon

Posts: 375 (28/03/2008 13:30:25) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	This is one of my pet hates Jan, every city/town centre now has one of these huge shopping centres either in it or nearby and everyone I've ever been in all look the same!! Same shops, same places to eat, etc, etc ok they may be set out differently, but in my opinion if you've been in one, you'll know whats in any of the others. It's getting to be the same in city/town centres too, all the shops are the same, no matter where you are. What's happened to city centres with character and individuality? It's such a shame that these huge companies and councils have made it almost impossible for smaller, independent businesses and shops to survive now. Climbs down from soap box and breathes Jane xxx

Posts: 76 (28/03/2008 14:21:19) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I couldn't agree more about all the shopping centres being the same.I really get mad about it because not only do they sell the same things,but they are all geared for the youngsters,if you are like me and over 25(well over) then you can't find anything to wear.It used to be lovely to go to another town/city and explore the different shops,but sadly that is a thing of the past.We do have a shopping centre in Manchester,the Lowry and it actually has 2 craft shops,surprising really because it is only small,but I enjoy going there.I then go to Harry Ramsdens for the best fish and chips. Do you ever watch "Grumpy Old Women" on tv and think,"that is me"?????? Betty

Lakeland Craft Supplies discontinuing 'Thank you for taking the time to contact us about our craft range. In April/May we'll be posting out our last specialist craft catalogue. Although we are discontinuing the catalogue some of the products will be carried forward and featured in other catalogues. This decision has been made to make room for our ever increasing kitchenware range. As our kitchenware has been so successful we must find extra space for it in our stores and mail order distribution centre.
