What a lovely thread! Hubby is potting seedlings and putting them in the greenhouse for now. We could still have frost up here. The cherry tree is about to
blossom and the winter pansies are still doing well. I have been snipping their little heads off to press for several weeks now. I have a small azaelea shrub
blossoming and the jasmine is growing wild. We noticed the honeysuckle we thought had died is actually showing signs of life and the passion flower vine is
taking over the fence. I have some annuals seeds to sow as soon as I get organised. Night scented stock and verbena.
Garden birds come visiting often and are fun to watch. Bluetits, robins, doves, blackbirds, sparrows and a wren, which we hope will make its nest in one of the bird houses. It certainly looks promising. All we want now is some warmer weather

murchison wrote: my sentiments exactly! I did do a bit of weeding last week - but it is so wet underfoot. I used to have a gardener help me and last couple of years
cousin of MIL of Dawnywol has come and done a bit of digging for me. Trouble is he isn't really a "flower gardener" more into vegetables. His
method of weeding is to dig all the plants out get rid of the weeds and put the plants back. So looks as though it will be me and the fork and hoe this
year. I can cope with that - it is the bending down and clearing up all the cuttings/weeds etc that get the hips and back!

Oh how I wish I could get my hands back in the garden again,
Being in a wheelchair I can't do the yardwork and take care of
my garden like I used to, so I do my container gardening, and it is lovely every year! I have a lot of plans for container gardening on my yuku board The Very
Thing, check out my profile and come see me, a lot of you ladies have already visited and I just loved having you! I add new gardening tips and recipes and patterns every week!
Love Patricia

Hmmm... well after clearing the moss from the garden as much as possible, I'll wait and see how long I get to enjoy the daisies and dandylions before hubby
trundles round with the mower in a month or so. Might even make some progress on the patio this year ... so far it's still a pit in the ground awaiting
completion.

My garden consists of two very large window boxes and a hanging manger!
Currently filled with winter flowering shrubs and cyclamen. Planning loads of white and yellow for the summer but its far too cold to replant at the moment. I would absolutely LOVE to have a garden!! In a former life I had a large garden with a big vegetable plot and grew old fashioned roses - alas, living in the city centre I lost my garden but have the parks around about to see. Jan

My Mum's just phoned to say a load of ready plants have arrived from Gardening Direct!
Dad used to order every year from them and their plants are excellent!!! . Last
year although poorly he still managed a little potting up. Mum wanted to carry on the tradition. 180 Impatiens (shared - 60 for me), 80 geraniums, + many
others? I wonder what has arrived today? I know what I am doing later, and it will be a bit emotional being in Dad's greenhouse again thinking of him in
there last year.

My garden is in a bit of a mess just now, I 'inherited' my dad's garden two years ago and despite trying as hard as I could, I just couldn't
get into it - my heart has just not been in it. I've made a vow to myself that I will get it back up to scratch this year, and I am trying very hard. The
vegetable beds are dug and currently weed free, ready for seed potaoes and onion sets when the frosts are over - maybe in a couple of weeks time. I've
started tomato plants, cucumbers, courgettes in the green house and I am still swithering about the rest of the garden. I want it to look nice but much lower
maintenance and I don't want to spend a fortune on it either. Thinking about getting some low growing shrubs, grasses, small conifers and lavenders so the
beds look quite nice all year round, then filling in the gaps with a thick layer of bark mulch to keep the weeds down. However, I am not sure. I am also going
to plant a proper, good old fashioned herb garden. I have lots of reclaimed bricks and stones and have started growing lots of herbs from seeds so I'll be
ready to go when it gets a bit warmer.
I wish everyone a good gardening year and fingers crossed that I can keep to the promise I made to my poor wee garden .... |
