Thanks for the tip I've just been online and ordered the R285, my last Epson wouldnt do cardstock and my HP printer will do cardstock but not borderless so
the R285 sounds ideal.

What is CISS? I am very interested as I seem to be spending about £20 a week at the moment.
Lindatrott - Your cat is lovely and sounds to be the same temperament as Hamish, also known as Hamish the Nelly. |

One word of warning to prospective Epson purchasers, although I was told my Epson DX4400 WOULD print vellum, it won't. Not any, light or dark.

CISS ink system is a set of seperate ink tanks, six in the case of my Epson R285, one of each colour, so instead of replacing cartridges, the tanks replenish
the printer. It is quite tricky to install, thankfully my husband is a maintenance engineer and he fitted it with no problems, but it has been a bit tricky to
get the ink to flow. I have managed to overfill the ink and wasted some into the base of the printer but it works fine.
The idea is that without having to replace cartridges it is much cheaper, and I do a lot of printing as a sample maker. Cartridges are not very economical as they have sponges inside which soak up the ink so a good part of the cartridge ink is wasted every time, also if only one colour runs out you have to replace the whole cartridge instead of just the one colour. CISS comes with six pre-filled tanks of 100ml each which is four or fives times more than one cartidge volume and cost me £20. (On EBay) Early days for me but so far am quite impressed and ink quality is excellent. Moira - must be a ginger thing..........................with our cats .... |

I found vellum to be tricky, as the printer could not recognise it ,like acetate, so if I attach the vellum to a sheet of white paper with repo adhesive it
prints absolutely fine.

Thanks Linda, will have to try that. I won't tell you what I said about the guy who said 'course it will!' when asked. Then I decided I should feel
sorry for him, he obviously doesn't know what vellum is...... !!

none of my printers have liked working with Vellum, it cries, it screams, then it gets a paper jam!!!!
Acetate has been fine though. |

Thanks for the information re CISS ink system. I'm afraid that it sounds to be a little too complicated for me but I have printed off the details and will
be having words with my son-in-law.
I have been using compatables from Aktiv in my Epsom for ages but the printer has started to tell me to install an Epsom cartridge. It eventually gets tired of giving this message and starts to print - how long for I don't know but I will then get an R285. I must admit that I prefer my Epsom to my HP. Lindatrott - Hamish sends his regards to Lucy and says that the lady at the vets said that ginger cats are usually docile. |
