have you ever wanted to strangle a teacher |

my son is in year 10 and has been doing coursework for his statistics gcse for about 6 weeks and it was handed in on Monday. On wednesday the head of maths for
the school called a meeting of his entire maths group and informed them that (under his teachers guidance) they had all done the coursework completely wrong. I
must admit that when I looked at his work comparing it to what his sister did for hers it looked lightweight but she did hers 10 years ago and they are moving
away from coursework so much. however the long and short of it was they had to completely redo the coursework, and get this they had till today to get it done.
They had four hours at school on wednesday(missing other lessons ) and yesterday at home while the teachers were on strike. Luke was up at 8 yesterday morning
on the computer getting the graphs, tables, diagrams etc done and was still there at 10 last night finishing off. If I could get my hands on his maths teacher
right now I think I could kill putting them through that kind of stress because he hadnt done his job properly

That's terrible, surely they could have allowed more time under the circumstances ( could depend on who knows about the #!$$-up along the chain )
Hugs, it's not fair, they have enough to cope with at that age. Hope your son and the rest of his classmates do well...despite the set back. San x |

When my daughter was about 7 yrs old, they had one of those Parents' Open Days, when you got to see your child's work. I will never forget how furious
I was when I saw that my daughter had had her correct spelling of "scary" crossed out by her teacher and he
had written "scarey" instead! I went to see the headteacher about it, and in fact she was walking towards me down the corridor and she took one look
at me and said "Come into my office Mrs G***". I hadn't said a word but I think I must have looked like I was going to explode.
Edit: I've just remembered that in the course of the conversation I had with the headteacher, she told me that she had difficulty remembering whether or not there was an 'e' in "icy"! It's appalling when a seven year old child's spelling is better than
that of her teacher and head teacher! Thank goodness we read books at home so that she became literate and numerate, despite rather than because of her so-called "teachers".

Surely the examination board should have been contacted and asked that as there are exceptional circumstances, and as the fault falls wholly on the school and
not the children, the pupils should be given an extended deadline ???
It is absolutely appalling, we are pushing are children much to hard these days, I am beginning to understand why the teenagers are so disgruntled !!! I have had several conversations with my daughter's school about the fact that the teacher gave them spellings which were incorrect to begin with !!! this was not the children writing down the words incorrectly all the class had exactly the same incorrect spelling. I also was amazed that at parents evening we looked through there school work books the number of spelling mistakes and the work had supposely been marked. They also set homework that the children have not even covered in class because they just photocopy worksheets without looking closely at what the worksheets are asking the children to do. My eldest likes to do her homework herself without help and just have us check that what she has done is correct, when she has no idea how to tackle something she becomes very frustrated! I had to complain to my eldest daughter's teacher on Monday about a book they had begun reading in class. I encourage my children to ask questions and as my eldest is now 10yrs old there are some rather tricky questions coming up but I answer truthfully in as much detail as I think is appropriate for her age. So when she asked me what a certain word meant (slang for make male anatomy beginning with k and ending in b) I explained and then asked who had been using it. Was stunned to find that it was in a book they were reading in class !!! I did some research on the internet and found out the book contains several other inappropriate words. language I don't expect my children to use. Whilst the words used were not the most offensive that you can hear I certainly don't want them reading books like that in the classroom. The teacher did say that he had read the first few pages of the book and thought it would be ok, it was only when they got further into the book he realised bad language was included ?? He has said that he has read the book in full now and marked up his copy and needs someone to go through the childrens copies to blank out said words ??? I will make sure it is done and if it isn't I will be speaking to the Head. Gail |

Thats dreadful surely more time should have been allowed. I wonder who knew about this other than the "in few" and were covering up for themselves.
