for our neighbour was lovely. She got a complete surprise because she was expecting to go for a cup of coffee at one house. She was then taken to another house where we we were all waiting. She got a present and a card from every house in the cul de sac and was overcome. The food and wine was lovely and she was thrilled to bits with her birthday cake that had eight candles on it. The chap who'd carried it over to the party house had lost one of the candles on the way. We had a lovely time and she was thrilled to bits when the youngest male gave her his arm to escort her home to the bottom house. Half a dozen of us had to go with them, carrying all her gifts. She asked us to put them on the kitchen bench and as we left she gave me a big kiss and said that she had enjoyed the day so much and it was the best day of her life - so far! She's hoping to be here for her 100th so that she can get a telegram from the Queen. I quite believe she will be but whether the majority of us will be there to celebrate with her remains to be seen. We're all getting a bit long in the tooth. Hazel

I took lots of photographs yesterday and I've just finished making a mini scrapbook for her. It was one of the small paper back ones that I bought in a set from QVC I think. I put a big gold 90 in the little window on the front. I used lots of brightly coloured papers as background and set the photos differently on each page. I didn't add any embellishments because the book wouldn't have tied with the ribbon if it had been any thicker. It's just like a little memory book to keep in her handbag. Eric's just taken it down to her house and he hasn't returned so I think he's been roped in for a cup of coffee.
