Posts: 590 (01/05/2008 17:01:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I moved in to this flat almost year ago and from day one I have had to put up with the neighbour upstairs playing loud music , and when I say loud I mean so loud it can be heard all over my flat let alone his and can infact be heard out side.. He plays it at all times of the day or night I have been woken up at 2 am when he and his friends have come home drunk and decided to have a party and was kept awake untill 8.30 am. He works shifts and I have bent over backwards to make sure I don't make noise when he is on night shift. I have had to report him to my housing officer but it is taking so long and the stress is now taking its toll on my health. I feel like i'm banging my head against a brick wall:hmr Why can't people be more considerate. I left a lovely flat to come here because I had no choice. I lived in a lovely flat with civilised neighbours. Sorry about the rant but I needed to get it off my chest lb

I expect you have tried to speak to your neighbour about it. Maybe he doesn't realise that you can hear his music so clearly. Why not contact your housing officer again or what about those people who come and measure the amount of sound (I don't know what they're called). There is nothing worse than trying to sleep and you can't for noise. Doreen x

Keep a diary of the noise Lonnie, note when it starts, and when it stops. It will all help your case. Paula x

I have contacted enviromental health and they say because I am a housing Association Tennant it is up to the housing association to deal with it. Unfortunately Birmingham don't have an out of hours unit. So i have to keep slogging on. He know what he is doing and does it deliberately. It is so silly because he could loose his home because of it. lb

Posts: 1289 (01/05/2008 18:23:18) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	if i was you lonnie, when he is on night duty and sleeping during the day i would make sure my music is loud and he cant sleep and then he will know what it is like. i had a new neighbour move in some years ago and he had a party and the music was so loud and it went on until 03.00. at 07.00 i got up and put my music on downstairs and upstairs and at 11.00 i had a knock on my door and he said he was sorry about the loud music and would not do it again. i think he got the message. he did not stay long and left after 6 months and i am happy to say i have very quiet neighbours. so play the music loud and give him some of his own medicine. love june x

Paula is right about contacting local authorities, that is what I did, but and it is a big but, what are your neighbours like? By that I mean can they get aggressive etc.? The local authorities will write to them and that was when my trouble really started. Poisoned food was thrown over garden wall, hoping one of my dogs would eat it and I was threatened every time I left the house, so were my sons. At the time they were young and both were in wheelchairs. Even when I reported the incidents I was told that until they actually hurt you physically there is nothing that can be done. When my eldest son came home on leave from Royal Navy he realized something was wrong and I told him, so he paid them a visit. To this day I don't know what was said, but within a month they had moved. I have wonderful neighbours now, but please be careful. Lots of love and good wishes to you, Hilary

Are there any others to support you? I certainly wouldn't keep quiet for him, give him a taste of his own medicine.

I had a problem with the room I was boarding in. I worked 5 nights a week, same nights for 2 years, and the woman I boarded with would never tell me when she was having people over. I didn't have a problem with her having them over, if she could have given me warning, but when I am rudely awoken by her laughter and her voice 3 hours before I was due to wake up, I was furious. I rarely heard the guests, but her. Grrrrr. If I got up, and she saw me, she would loudly ask, "are you working tonight? Sorry. I didn't know. Thought you had the night off. We'll keep the noise down." And then she would turn around and get louder and louder. I understand when neighbours made noise during the day, since they didn't know I worked nights, but she knew darn well what days I worked, and that I was trying to sleep. Selfish, this woman is beyond selfish, what with taking my food, even though she knew it was mine, and so many other things. But to ask her, she is the most kind and considerate person in the world. I am so glad to be out of there. I think that you should just stop being considerate when your neighbour is working nights. Just make the noise you would normally make if he wasn't sleeping. You don't have to go overboard, but if you invite some friends around and you get a little loud, no one could blame you for that. You are working within your rights. Oh and if you accidentally drop a few pots while you are cooking (with nothing in the pots), or have to loudly move your furniture (or something else) from one side of the room to another, then not like the new position so have to move them back again, well that's just business as usual. Drop a few pots, and see how good that make you feel. Good luck Cat xx

Posts: 4950 (02/05/2008 00:32:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	When the music is playing, call the noise abatement people in............ keep full records of dates, times, etc. One of our nieghbours complained about my dog barking "all night"............. threatened me with all sorts including he council. I kept my own record for two months and never heard anything more. The first thing the council will do is ask you to keep records and then they will act if they feel the noise is unacceptable. In our case the complaint was totally unjustified - the dog was shut in all night so how could she be outside? Stupid man. But they WILL act if it's shown that what he is doing is outside of acceptable limits. Keep hassling hun - it will work in the end. C xx
