claire, you are not sad. one of our nurses is getting married in june and i made 3 wedding cards, or start to make 3. one of them turned out as an enagament
card, it looked more like an engagement card than a wedding card. the second one i will give to her but the third one, well it is lovely, i think it is
stunning and i am keeping it for myself. no one will be given that card. also that card is not going in a drawer, i have it on my dresser. its a bookatrix
card.

Don't laugh!..............................please! I have a sausage box or 10, into which I put all the ones that get knocked out like sausages on a
converyer belt. They get kept for when someone knocks at the door for a card as they are ready to go. I also put in the sausage box anything I am trying to
develope as an idea needing fine tuning. I mainly do commissioned work now for extra special cards and wedding stationary.

I have about 100 assorted cards in a box under my bed. I make up packs for gifts for elderly relatives and friends who don't get out, so they appreciate a
selection of cards to use. Apart from that, I've just been asked for 2 dozen for the local WI market and neighbours sometimes pop in for one, Otherwise
they sit in their cello packets in a box under my bed, waiting.......... Janet!

As I have been making cards for about 9 years I have hundreds of made cards in a box, all in cellophane bags ready for sale. I do make a lot of special orders,
but other wise they are gathering dust. I used to sell them in the village post office until it closed. I am a bit wary of selling into shops - small business
and tax etc - but I have a friend who sells them for me. She lives the other side of the country, and at the moment I only send her A6 sized cards and she
sells them at the weekly dance (pensioners) and to friends, who keep asking for more, so I have obliged this week with another parcel containing larger and
shaped cards (handbag/shoes etc) I dread to think what each card has cost me, must be in the hundreds, when you take into account the amount of stuff in my
craft room. I expect I am not alone there !!!

I had a stack of cards building up, I kept them in boxes. I tried to sell a few times on a craft stall but I picked bad venues.. so it's put me off a bit..
... So, I packed up 95 cards and Kaylie packed the extra 5 to round it up to 100 cards... and we sent them to Afganistan for the soldiers to send home.. Hubby has a gaming pal who has a brother serving out there.. so we had someone to send them too.. He has since posted half of the cards via the red cross to Iraq where the rest of his regiment is stationed.. It feels good to have done this.. and we will now be making more to send over at Christmas..(smile) Hug Sylvie A |

I have only recently started to build up a stock of cards, but they will probably largely be for me to send. I don't sell them as a general rule as I find
that people don't often appreciate the work that has gone into them and don't like to pay enough to cover the costs.

I tend to make cards as I go along, although I do have a few stashed in a couple of boxes and I have still got the very first card I made. I don't like
making cards for people who you know will not appreciate them. I get special requests for cards from friends and people at work, I really enjoy doing these as
quite often they are challenging requests, I am in the midst of making my third set of wedding stationary, these are a slogg but worth it when you know your
efforts have been appreciated.
But will I ever make money at this??.... like most out there... probably not. I started out like a lot of others thinking it would be cheaper to make my own, Dauh!!!!! I soon got my eyes opened there, my craft come dining room will verify that, but the circle of friends I have made in the last couple of years far outweighs the cost. Carol x |
