Poor Swallow! |

Well today's excitement is that a dear little swallow has flown into our sitting room - and as the ceiling is about 20 feet high there's nothing we can
do to catch it - it's just circling and circling - so we have have rung the RSPB and following their instructions we have one window wide open and all the
others covered with drawn curtains, lights off etc and quietly locking the room and leaving, hoping that it will be sensible enough to fly out of the window to
freedom - hate to think it might not make it - will update later!

This reminds me of the time we lived in Wiltshire, when bats would fly around the garden in the evening, and of course one flew in through the patio doorI. It
was a while before it flew out again, but it was lovely seeing one close up. We had a robin in the kitchen a few weeks ago. I opened the french doors from the
kitchen into the garden, but no, it decided (before I could close the door) to go through into the hall, then the lounge. It seemed quite happy hopping around
the floor and furniture, and not a bit frightened, in fact it seemed quite at home. I finally ushered it back into the kitchen and waited until it decided to
depart. I have had collared doves fall down the chimney, they panic against the windows trying to escape. I did have a poor starling fall into the fire one
Christmas, we rescued it and poured water on it and placed it in a box in a quiet corner. To my amazement the next morning, when I opened the box, expecting to
find a dead bird there was this very perky but scorched bird, which I let go into the garden. I often saw it over the next few weeks, it was the one with no
feathers down one side, but it seemed to be coping. Needless to say we now have wire over the chimneys. but it doesn't stop them coming in the door.

I would be freaked out as well, Sassie - can't cope with any flying creatures at all. I feel as if they are flying AT me. Eric would be in the room with
it and I would be well away.

Oh Joanna, I hope the poor mite makes it. There seems to be loads more swallows this year and they are so beautiful. I haven't seen our resident robin for
about a week now and miss him. I do hope he hasn't landed in the jaws of a cat............

awe bless the poor ickle birdie.
I remember having a pigeon in my bedroom in the old house, it was going crazy. The neighbour threw a towel over it and managed to get it out but I had to scrub the whole room. |

Don't leave it too long, Joanna, it might be looking for somewhere to nest!
There was a story on the local news last night about a robin that has made a nest in a school classroom, in a nesting box that one of the pupils was
making!
