Unfortunately you don't have to be old to get shingles. I have amazed the doctors by having had shingles 3 times . Once at 16 on my stomach-still have scarring, again at 33 on my face, and the third time when I was 35 (after a hysterectom)-again on my face and forehead- just a wider path. My kids actually called me elephant woman because I had this huge swollen mass from my forehead down to each side of my nose. The second time was given medication to relieve the nerve pain, but it didnt work. The 3rd time they tried another form of medication with better results. but even now I still suffer nerve pain and sensitive skin in the facial area , I have to wear a hat almost down to my nose in the winter when milking the cows or I find the pain unbearable.

My daughter got chickenpox at 3 months old, 1-2 spots- but at age 2 ended up with shingles all over her back and down to the fingertips on the one arm. I had taken her to the doctors at 3 pm, because of her flailing arms,and unsettled behaviour but was told there was nothing wrong. At 6pm she was back at the doctors with the erupted blisters. The doctor said he had never heard of a child that age contracting shingles, because of her age the drugs could not be used , and she took 6-8 months before the nerve pain settled down, and her immune system recovered.
Take care and rest up, and avoid too much stress as even now I find that stressful times bring on the nerve pain.
