What to use to colour in |
Lead | |

I have decided for my birthday I am going to get my stock of stamping stuff built up so what do you recommend to colour in, have got water colour pencils, some
sakura (so more of those are going on my list) and a set of h2os but I cant get on with those at all - so what else do you all use - hubby wants to go to wales
on my birthday weekend for the rugby so I have been told to make a big list!!!!!

Sakura pens would be top of my list Julie, especially stardust and glaze. I've just got some tinkabella inks and they are gorgeous too, they make great
backgrounds as well as giving a lovely finish for colouring stamped images
sounds very exciting though - Hubby is asking for trouble, fancy tellig you to make a big list lol Claire xx |

Chalks!!! I'm totally non-artistic and using pens gives an effect such as achieved by a backward 3 year old, but even I can make a decent card with chalks

I'm with Fiona, I love using chalks because you can get great results with chalks.

I adore H2Os, such gorgeous colours and Marvy le Plume pens. Marvy's are brilliant to use as watercolours plus they can be mixed with H2Os to give that
shimmery colour. I also use acrylic paints, ordinary gel pens especially the metallic ones, ordinary felt tips - brush some felt tip colour onto an acrylic
block and pick up the colour with a damp paint brush.
I also adore the gold and silver with hints of colour Sakura pens (can't remember their name but Joanna stocks them) which can also be used with a damp paintbrush to spread the colour out and give a hint of gold or silver with the colour. Enjoy shopping Lynn xx |

Those pens look lovely Lynn, are they they Moonlight ones? Can't remember the name but I've seen them on c&c and had forgotten about them. Oh dear
another thing to add to my wish list! What with Joanna having 2 new cds coming out I think I need to get a paper round before I go to work lol

The list is getting longer and longer. Marvy pens to be added now. Cant get on with chalks either, can you see a pattern emerging!!! I think I may need some
more H20s, I think I may have got the wrong set for me as the ones I have are very bright and almost gharish and have to be watered down a lot, so maybe I need
a lighter colour,

Julie H2Os can be mixed together too just like ordinary paints, so it might be a good idea to get another set or two or three! I use lids off margarine/butter
tubs as paint palettes.
Claire it's the silver shadow and gold shadow Sakura pens, I find that if i use them direct to paper then I can hardly see the colour for the gold or silver but when a little is put on a picture and immediately "drawn" out with a water brush then the main colour is visible with a hint of gold or silver - lovely. I use a mixture of Copic markers and Marvy. Both work very well for colouring in. With the Marvy you can use directly on the stamp if you want instead of
Stazon and then colouring in. I don't use H20s except when the effect I want is to be a bit shimmery. I find I can't get the fine detail as usually my
fine brushes have disappeared just when I need them.

I'm a big fan of pearelscent tinting medium, costs a few pound for a large tube and is found in amongst the artist paints. It's a bit like sparkly
toothpaste and you only need a pea size blob, mix a tiny weeny bit with any wet colouring medium (felt tips scribbled on a plate, ink, watercolours etc) to
give a twinkly effect.
Polychromo pencils blended with sansador is another nice one but they arent cheap. |

Hello Julie - my absolute favourite is the Stewart Gill range called Mini Mezze - Glenda Waterworth stocks them.
They are creamy to start with and you can water them down or mix just like H2Os, but I always use them in preference because there's no waiting once I've made up my mind. With the attention span at times of an amoeba I can have forgotten what I was planning by the time the H2Os soften! |

Marvy pens too they give you some bright bold colours like felt pens but esp for crafting. have a thick & thin end.

I use tube watercolour paints, I find I can blend them, so in effect take out the process of drawing the picture.

Hi Cottager - I think the pens that you mean are the Gold/Silver Shadows - they are gorgeous, especially for writing greetings.

Watercolour pencils & waterbrush | ||
|
Hi, I'm new to the forum and use all of the above but still swear by my watercolour pencils and waterbrush. The inexpensive brush is filled up with water
by squeezing the barrel and drawing up as you would a fountain pen. Stores and travels securely. Lightly squeeze to wet brush and dry on kitchen roll then
take some colour from the tip of the Watercolour pencil. Try on scrap card. To change colour, simply squeeze a little water through onto kitchen roll and dry
again before going to next colour. Works wonders with rubber stamps and Staz On ink - I'm hooked on Penny Black stamps too !!

I have Marvy and Sakura pens and they are great. I love my watercolour pencils for shading but have also started using colouring pencils with Zest-it blending
solution. You apply the blednign solution with a paper stump and it gives a great effect.
