I know some members enjoyed the little updates last year on my family of badgers. Here's the latest picture of Lord Brockett (the dad). He's been
a little unwell the last few weeks with lots of open wounds from defending his territory. You can just see a wound healing under his left eye. He's got a
lot braver and seems to enjoy his chicken, bananas and grapes. He leaves the dog food and oats for his family who come later. No sign yet of Lady Brockett and
the potential babies. Both of last years babies have survived the winter - 2 out of 3 badgers die each Autumn / Winter from starvation.

Awww, Debbie, isn't he wonderful. Is that you holding food out for him??
Gosh you are so lucky. We know where there is a sett and have actually filmed some badgers there a few years ago. Where we live, there is a road then another row of houses then open fields and I know of a couple of residents on that row that have badgers come into the garden when food is hard to find. They never make it across to our graden though unfortunately. I have always had a love of badgers, probably inherited from my Dad, who used to go to the sett and leave food and sometimes bedding there for them. Hope you manage to see the rest of the family. Yes Sue - that's me feeding him - I've been feeding him chicken to help heal his wounds. One day he didn't run away when I opened the door to put
his chicken and grapes out and as I was putting out food he just came closer. I don't put the chicken etc out when he's not there as I don't want
to attract lots of other creatures.
If I remember correctly you're only a few miles from me - feel free to PM if you want to come and see them and feed Lord B. I hope Lady B turns up - it was the end of May last year when she brought the two babies - they were like tiny panda bears. I'll post another picture if she does. Debbie xx |

Adele - you want to see him crunch a chicken bone in record time - makes you realise how strong their jaws are. Once he's recovered from his wounds
I'll stop feeding him so much as I don't want him to think that humans are safe. We still have badger baiting in the area.
