Posts: 318 (12/05/2008 22:00:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Hi, Could anyone give me some advice that I can pass on to my friend. She has been asked to make wedding invitaions and as she has never done them before she doesn't know how to go about it. Can anyone point her in the right direction please, re:- making samples, pricing the goods used, price to charge etc. She has been a cardmaker for approx 3yrs but has never been asked for anything like this and she would love to have a go, so any help would be really appreciated. As she is not connected to the internet I said I would post this for her, I hope you don't mind. Sorry it's a bit long winded. Arlene

Fortunately she has the Rob Adams Cd but the info that she wants is, does she do samples, how do you cost them etc? She would love to do this order but obviously is very nervous and doesn't want to end working for nothing or going about it the wrong way, I said to her I will post on the forum as they are so helpful, but alas you are the only one that took the time to reply, and I am truely grateful. I read the forum every day I have laughed with all of you and also cried with you but do not post very often unless I need help and my requests have always been answered to which I feel very much a part of the forum. Posts: 9332 (13/05/2008 09:00:07) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I would make a few samples up and that way you can discuss with the Bride what she is looking for - maybe take pictures of ones that could be made up - that saves time - I made a book once with 20 odd samples and the last one I did for fun with a lot of work on it and you guessed it she picked that one Then you can either have a fixed price or the way I prefer is to set your fee and add all the ingredients at cost price that way the Bride gets the embellishments she wants and you get a better amount for your time - normally the Bride will add saying I want this and that and this last way you don`t loss out paying for extra`s I hope that helps a little - sorry for the late reply wanted to reply last night but yesterday wasn`t a good day and had some catching up of crafting to do Suzanne

I made 3 samples and then got them to pick which one they liked the best (saying that they could mix n match bits if they wanted). I then priced up the cost of materials and then added on 50p per card for doing it. It may be worthwhile for your friend to speak with the bride and groom regarding what they would like on the invite (e.g any colour scheme planned for the wedding, favorite flower, traditional or modern etc..), and then making a few samples. Thought it was a good idea as the bride could see what is in her price range. She also had a selection of insert styles to choose from. The best advice I've seen was from the forum (usually is) is tokeep the design simple yet elegant. this way you don't get bogged down with 70 or so fussy designs. Oh and another tip make sure she can get enough of the bare materials to finish the job, theres nothing worse than running out of something so having to start again. I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply. When She first asked me about the invites I said I couldn't help as hadn't done any myself but I know some people that do and that I would ask on the forum and you ladies have come up trumps again.
