I don't find it a problem, like Joanna I do it by eye with the guillotine.

Ruler with grid or measuring on the cutter works well enough for me until hubby sees it and tells me it isnt right
. The toad is always right but it's only ever an nth of a mm. Watching him
hang wallpaper is torture, takes all day to hang 2 strips because they have to be "perfect"

Sometimes I use the markings on my trimmers. If my topper is 3"x4" then I'll make the mat 3.5"x4.5" etc if I have a lot of layers and
want them all even this is the easiest way to make sure
Othertimes they look good just 'by eye' as Sue Smith woud say

I used to think my "mats" were ok but they are now as I use my beloved Nestabilities and have no problems at all now and have even done loads of
layers and have them in a container for up and comming projects.

It's got to be the matmate for me I couldn''t do without it now. Lifes too short to fiddle trying to get things straight and even.

I use the mat mate and Ive found a cheat too! lol. Line the top layer up in a corner of the card and use the mat mate to mark double the actual size you want
the mat to be on the other 2 sides. Saves time twice cos you only mark 2 sides and only cut 2 sides - then just centre the layers.

I use the "By eye" method with a large pair of scissorsDo the smallest first and then mat that on to a larger piece of card or paper leaving a small
border around two of the outside edges and then cut the other two edges to match.. mat those two pieces on to the main mat the same way....
I don't have any problems... Now sods law says it will all start going wrong..... hugs Ida xx |

I do mainly 'by eye' too using a guillotine. Line up the left and top edges and stick, then cut the other two sides to match. My little cutter is
great because if you line up the edge of the topper with the edge of the guard then cut you get a nice narrow edge - and if the first 2 sides are too big you
can do those as well.
Works for me anyway. Liz |

i use my old eyes and a pair of scissors and a prayer and it usually works. i am not too bad, not always straight, but who is looking. i heard recently someone
said on create and craft, if your mattering and layering isnt straight, it does not matter, it shows it is hand made card and it wasnt one of the presenters
but it was one of our craft experts. for the life of me i cannot remember who is was. just as well....................................................

I just cut to the size I want, if it's gonna go wrong it is always when sticking down.
For this I use a ruler I 'borrowed' from my hubby when I started crafting. It is a T shape which I line up with the top of the card to make sure the mat is straight and then release the ds tape bit by bit. Still get the odd squiffy one though, usually the one which has taken the longest to make. Quickie ones always go on dead straight! jackie
