Sorry, the price of petrol really gets my goat up, I think it is a necessity and shouldn't be so highly taxed.

Shades of the seventies I think - when there were lots of shortages which I think were made worse by panic buyers. Trouble is people will panic buy, regardless
of any advice given them. Sadly a lot of the ones who will rush to the pumps will have their cars sitting on the road most of the week so don't really need
to worry and the workers who will need to fill up when the strike is on (if it goes ahead) won't be able to find the fuel they need. Once before when there
was a strike I had filled the car as usual at the weekend and didn't need to fill up again for two and a half weeks by which time the strike was over. I
cut back on journeys and doubled up by only going shopping on my way home from work and using the bus whenever possible. But there will always be thoughtless
and dare I say greedy people who will effectively hoarde when they really don't need to.

sooo true Jan - I am just speechless - Richard and I have to do probably close on 1500 miles over the next 10 days with trips to Birmingham then Tunbridge
Wells then Peterborough TWICE - no make that nearer 2000 miles ... and there has to be a petrol strike ..... i may have to kick something

I'm afraid the government telling us not to panic reminds me of Corporal Jones in Dad's Army rushing around telling everyone not to panic and making
them even more likely to panic than before!

we're at leeds tomorrow and monday so petrol needed on both occasions
i feel sympathy for denise because the queues we had at the station i use to work at were ridiculous but it makes the shifts go quicker |

Hi everyone......at the moment it`s only Shell petrol stations affected, but....if everyone panic buy`s it will affect all stations.Of course thats what the
lobbyists want, to create mayhem! We all have to pay the rising costs of petrol ( i don`t get discount !) and its due to the tax and for some reason the Arabs
have put the cost up, which has to be passed onto everyone else..........
I am expecting to be very busy the next few days........... Love Denisexxx PS Nikki, Thanks for your concern, and yes, I too, love to be busy!! |

Yes it is only 1 in 10 stations affected at the moment. I do hope panic buying doesn't happen and that Aidan gets some petrol today. He is in portsmouth
and I would quite like him back lol

Yes Ali - I too can totally see the Dad's Army situation - and as when there were bread shortages or anything else - the world will fill up when in fact
those that need it most will be too busy to fill up and those that will have their cars sat full in the driveway will have had all day free to queue up
can you tell I'm ticked off lol J |

Well im afraid other half had to fill up the car he is a cab driver, and has to take special needs children to school so if he dosent fill up the children wont
there.Have to make sure got enough fuel for at least that even if he cant go about his normal cabbing.

But Caren your OH is just the sort of person that SHOULD be able to fill up - how wrong would it be if those kiddies couldn't get to school - and he needs
petrol for his job - it's the people that fill every car standing on the driveway and then don't go anywhere that I am whining about!

I didn't know there was to be a strike but had to fill up the other day so will be OK for a month as we don't use the car too often

I just happened to fill the car at the weekend so I hope it lasts.
What really gets my goat up is because I live is a rural area with no bus services at all, we NEED our car to get to work. Gordon Brown and his croonies should think of the likes of us when he is taxing fuel so highly!!!! We dont earn alot of money and it just cost me a fortune to fill the car up, but I dont have any option. Its not a luxury but a necessity to have a car where I live or we wouldnt be able to get to work. Can you tell Im quite ticked off lol xxxxxxx |

The panic buyers are queuing at Morrisons already. Last time I did put a bit more in because I do need my car for work and shopping. I suppose
everyone's thinking the same - if you don't buy, there'll be none left. Petrol goes up by 1p here on an almost daily basis |

I am currently away form home on business and will need to fill up before I can get bck. I hope I can find somewhere that is not queuing for hours!

I donlt read the news ever and rarely see the Telly (too busy crafting lol) but I must do some rersearch and find out what's causing the rise as the tax
hasn;t changed - so I am assuming the Arab and oil producing peeps have decided to raise the price per barrel?????

Hmmph, just come from Sainsburys. I had no choice but to queue as I was on fumes, but the queue wasn't caused by all the pumps being in use - they had only
two pumps in use for diesel and only one of these was on the right side for the vans - and it would be the pump by the entrance. Once I got through the vans, I
had every other pump to choose from (glad I still have my petrol car now

Public transport between my village and the village I need to get to is so unreliable it's untrue. The Timetables have been cut time and time again.
Fortunately it's not far away for me and I can survive on the petrol I have. Other teaching staff in school though travel quite long distances and at the
end of the day if we are effected it will be the children's education that will suffer. Us British seem to accept everything that they throw at us. Not
like the French who stand up for themselves, I know they usually cause mayhem but hey it seems to work.

My husband has just got home and said its just the Shell tanker drivers who are striking. He
works for a Murco oil terminal and their drivers are still working. I need to get petrol this evening (my warning light is on) so I hope I can get some - if the panic buyers have left me any!!! I cannot understand this need to bulk/panic buy - it happens when its Easter, Christmas and bank holidays too. Everyone seems to forget that shops only tend to close for 1 day and then they're open again. Sarah |

Oil price rises have been caused by greedy speculators on the international market bidding up the prices ... probably the same people who have done so much
harm internationally buying and selling currency in the past. There is enough oil around for everyone to use moderate amounts. It has been the same with some
foodstuffs as well including rice and wheat! As cereal prices have been pushed up by the speculators the cost of dairy and meat products is going up rapidly as
well.
I would dearly like to get hold of these speculators but can't really say here what I would love to do to them as i would get banned! |
