Posts: 2709 (11/06/2008 16:52:25) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None On June 21st please please pretty pleaseeeeee Ive has 1 before but it was only 15 mins,this time it could possibly be for an hour,as they are scanning my spine!!,last time was just my lower back so im feeling very nervous as i suffer sometimes with panic/anxiety attacks I know it has to be done,so its just going to be a case of close my eyes and think of something nice ,,,,,hmmm hope it works But if anyone would like to go for me please do feel welcome lolol On a happier note,everything is now organised for our wedding apart from we have to finish making the favour boxes,which we have decided to make Top Hats Sorry im not about much but its so uncomfortable at times to sit at the computer even thou docs have now put me on Tramadol Hugs to those that need them love Wendy xxx

The last one I had I tried a new tactic and it worked a treat, so instead of being so nervous and practically climbing out like I had before, I was calm and in fact nearly fell asleep. Like you said, I closed my eyes, and I did this before going into the machine. I was then able to concentrate on thinking of something else. I mentally walked around my favourite bit of countryside and it worked a treat. What also helped enormously was that my brother took me and hovered at the door. I could hear him talking to the technician and it made me feel safe, so perhaps you could arrange for someone to be in the room with you as well, especially as the scan will be for a longer time? Generally they are very sympathetic. Wishing you all the best, and once it's done you'll be able to make use of the results well as they are so detailed. Love and hugs, Lavender XX

Talk to the staff a few days beforehandand tell them how nervous you are. They may be able to give you something to calm you. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. xx

Posts: 15243 (11/06/2008 17:17:42) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	My Dad is having a scan as I type- Richard took him to Torbay hospital and poor chap he is worried silly - I do hope it passes as well as can be expected for both him and for you - I think my choice would be to try and travel in your mind to your wedding day - plan how you will look in that lovely lovely dress and think about Colin walking towards you and the family and then realise the scan is a good thing that will help that day happen ..... you can do it i know you;re strong smiles Joanna PS nope I aint not doing ti for nobody lolol

Posts: 1278 (11/06/2008 17:43:01) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I don't think I could do it again Wendy, I get very claustraphobic, my last MRI I closed my eyes even before I went inside the scanner and didn't open them again until someone touched my arm after I came out - must admit that my answers to any questions I was asked while having the scan were very terse. Mind you I would not be allowed anywhere near a scanner since I had all the electronics implanted into my spinal column so sorry mate can't do it. Seriously though, if they let you take some music to listen to and think yourself somewhere else, just remember that it is the only way that any abnormalities etc can be seen and future treatment planned and if it means a better future it will be worth it. I once went to visit my mum,took one look at the drip and ended up in casualty. Even after 13 years of regular hosp visits and blood tests I cannot look at a needle. Really feel for you though and just hope it goes as quickly as it can for you. As Joanna says cast your mind to the big day and you will be fine. Ali x

I put on my ipod, shut my eyes and just imagined myself on a golden sandy beach in the carribean. Mind over matter seemed to work for me. No thanks really don't want to take your place though, I'm like you and can't lay on my back for too long without feeling uncomfortable. Perhaps you could even wear those eye shades like they give you on the plane or I wear them when I have a migraine, that way you won't be tempted or forget and open your eyes. Good luck not a nice thing but if it comes up with positive results it will all be worth it.

The last one I had they actually asked me what music I would like, and it does cut out the awful banging noise. Like Joanna said, think of your wedding and also your honeymoon in Egypt. Twice I have been for an MRI scan, and both times couldn't go through with it! I get so dizzy laying flat, they had to cancel it. I'll be thinking of you on the 21st.
