Posts: 1863 (16/04/2008 20:39:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Hi all, I'll hopefully be starting the cambridge diet next week after I have seen my doctor on monday for the medical approval you have to get before undertaking the diet. Don't know if anyone has heard of it on here before, but, basically you drink 3 food shakes a day and drink loads of water. You are supposed to lose a stone a month. I've tried Lipotrim in the past but couldn't stomach it after a while. This diet has much more variety of shakes and soups to use as well as chocolate coated meal bars to use probably after the first few weeks so you don't miss chewing. I have just joined the cambridge diet forum and am getting loads of pre diet tips and tricks as well as loads of motivation. The before and afters are amazing! I'm really looking forward to starting it. I have about 8/9 stone to lose so will be on it quite a few months. I have tried loads of diets in the past so this is my very last huge effort to lose the weight that has been my curse all of my life. If I fail on this, I don't know what I'll do. It is quite pricey to use - about £30 - £40 a week, but if you compare that with the quality of life you'll have after a couple of months, you don't seem to mind the cash situation. Andrea xx

It was formulated at Cambridge and several of my academic colleagues had a hand in it. This was in the late 1980's. It works but the downside is that once you start introducing solid food the weight goes back on. Its also quite a lot of money. Slimfast is similar although this doesn't have all of the right vitamins and minerals needed. Why not try Slimming World or Weight Watchers where you can eat 'normal' food. Jan

As I have been struggling with my weight most of my life it's either the choice of wasting another couple of years on "normal" food, or losing weight in a matter of months and getting to live the life I've always wanted more than anything. I know which I would choose. Anyway, you'll see what the cambridge diet can do when you visit the link you asked me for in a PM won't you? Don't say things about areas of a person's life you probably don't understand, being overweight can make your life truly miserable as I know. When you feel like I do, trust me, it's a last resort, it's not a choice it's through having to change my life. Come back to me when you've experienced my position. Andrea xx

One of the Mum's at Maia's school needed to lose weight quickly as her arthritis was crippling her, so she did a similar food replacement diet. It worked as she dropped 5 stones in approx 3 months. She has put weight back on now she is eating solid food but is no where near the size she started and has a smaller appetite so it seems to have done the trick. Let us know how you get on Jo xxx

I'm not sure if you've read my story on this forum but i've lost over 13 stone in the last 18 months. The first 3 1/2 was on prescribed slimming pills, but the remainder has been on the Herbalife program. I have 2 shakes a day and 1 healthy meal of my choice. I know several people who have tried the cambridge diet and although the weight does come off rapidly, but not safely or healthily, it also goes back on even quicker as soon as you start on solids again. Also, it is not healthy to deprive the body of solids. You are not getting the vital vitamins, nutrients etc your body needs and the people i know who have done it were all constantly fatigued. As for the price, the Herbalife program costs around £3.50 a day, a lot cheaper. The shakes are packed full of all the vitamins, nutrients and proteins your body needs. If you would like some more info please contact me. I don't want this to sound like a hard sell, but i urge you to seriously reconsider anything rather than the likes of the Cambridge or Litalife programs. Regards, Steve.

If I add solids into my diet, it's way too easy for me to cheat and eat the wrong things. I have to do something about my weight and if it means not eating food then that's the way it has to be. I've ignored it for 2 years now and my weight has just escalated, due to depression and having PCOS. I want to lose it quickly so I can lead a better life quicker. On a better note, I had my 1st weigh in today and I've lost 6lbs and a lot of inches. I'm well pleased. Andrea xx

My clothes are starting to be too big for me. I've still a long way to go, but I feel brlliant in myself. I don't feel half as depressed as I did, I've never felt so good in 2 years. I'll definitely be carrying on with the diet until I've lost the lot. It's like second nature to me now and I don't really miss food at all. It's hard when hubby has something nice but I just deal with it and think about the consequences if I ate something, it would spoil everything I had achieved in the last 2 weeks. I think it was due to me retaining water at a certain time of the month for us girlies, lol My counsellor just told me to reduce my water intake to 3 litres instead of the 4.5 litres I've been drinking so far. Every 2/3 weeks my trousers keep going big and baggy due to the inches lost. In 2 months I've gone down 2 sizes in trousers. I'm waiting for the top half to catch up at the moment, I'm in between sizes on top. Andrea xx

I wish you lots of luck and hope you stay as supervised as poss to protect you when you start to re-introduce the solids - thats went it all went pear shaped for me lots of luck Joanna

Thanks for your encouragement Joanna, it means a lot. I'm still on the diet, I'm coming up to 4 months now. So far, I'm 5lbs off losing 4 stone. I've never lost this much weight in my life. It's been pretty hard going sometimes for me but I've stuck with it. I'm introducing solids slowly, I know what you mean Joanna, it's so easy to go off the rails at this point, but I'm coping well with it. I haven't strayed too much, I've had the odd treat here and there, well I am only human after all. All in all, really enjoying watching and feeling the weight come off, never been so happy in 2 years. I'm out and about a lot more too now, getting my fearless side back. Thank god there's no more depression for me. I've also managed to get myself a job working for QVC in the call centre, taking orders, so I may well speak to some of you without even knowing it. Especialy to you Tina, with your Kipling items, I'll know how much you buy then, won't I, lol. Andrea xx
