Never mind, every cloud has a silver lining, just think of all that free travel.
Your only as young as you feel. And you know what they say, Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional! lol Caroline |

I turned 60 in October 2 years ago -and had to wait a whole year for the heating allowance because the cut-off date was 26th Sept that year GRRRRRR. I
contacted them to see if there was a pro rata amount but of course there wasnt! Janet

I was 60 last December and am making full use of my bus pass. Saves using the car to often, especially with the price of petrol these days. At least I'll
get the fuel alowance this year. Missed out last year

It is great, buses, train tickets overseas, free prescriptions, cheaper theatre tickets, some places do pension prices for meals.
Increased fuel allowance this year too. Don't forget to ask - you don't get if you don't. Love Cynthia xx |

Well, Kali. You are certainly right on that . I have been asked for the last two years about six times in all
if I have my bus pass. In the chemist they say "do you have to pay prescripion charges",Last year I was asked if I was a pensioner someone was selling a ticket for the NEC craft. Last week me and hubby, who is seven years older than me went to a car boot sale, he had no change, it was 40p each, so I handed the "lady" 80p. hubby walked on, the "lady" said you have given me too much "you are a pensioner arn't you"? I SAID NO, in a huff met up with hubby told him I must change my image and explained. He thought it was so funny, So I said "it is you! with a baldy head and grey beard you are making me look old!" He laughed and said I was probably right, but you know I still think after nearly 40 years he still looks quite good! So it must be me! I am only 57 and 3 quarters!!!!. Love Jen |

It think you are right too pensioners are getting younger ....looking that is ... a friend of mine who has had her pension for nearly 2 years now looks like
someone under 50.. I have never coloured my hair ..yet... so I suppose that is keeping me just a wee bit younger looking.

Kay we are a bit different in Northern Ireland even tho we are part of the uk our benefits etc are worked out in a slightly different way. My brother in Oldham
gets things that we don't get here.

I think it's quite good being a pensioner, don't like that word though! I quite like recycled teenagers, golden oldies, but wondered what anyone else
thought. What would you prefer?? When I went to the town hall a few weeks ago to inquire where my bus pass was, the man behind the desk looked at my crutches
and said "oh, that will be a disabled one, you're obviously not 60" !!! I just smirked quietly to myself and never said a word!!!
I am actually 61!!! Maybe he hadn't been to the opticions for a
while!!

oh I think it's great, I can't wait to be a pensioner as you can be as rude as you want and get away with it.

i am aware that northern ireland have different things, but unfortunetley the winter fuel payment does state that for qualifing week you have to be over 60 in
united kingdom and northern ireland.

As I can't 'do' buses, I've not bothered to get a bus pass but I did get a B&Q discount card (wednesdays only) and one or two other
discount cards for over 60's,. Our local Crosses shop, where they do a lot of craft stuff, also gives a pensioner discount card so that could be useful.
I've not been there since I turned 60, so haven't got one yet. It might have changed in almost 2 years . Will be interested to hear any other
advantages in being a 'senior'!! Janet
