Up till now I have been very good at cataloging(sp?) my stamps.. When I get a new stamp I make an image and store it in a folder and stamp goes in a numbered box. Up till now I have always stored by designer so JS in one one box, Penny Black in another etc. My problem is that so much of what I do now is by theme (ATCs, Fat Books, Challenges) so should I re-arrange by theme. I am getting to the stage that I can't remember what I have got and it takes ages to look through my folder (more to do with number of stamps than mental state) Opinions please. Tess x

You could carry on as you are but at the same time you could set up a seperate index by theme and just cross reference it to the same place that way you can look them as either way and end up with what you want. Probably not much help but why get rid of the old system when it works just reclassify in another folder. Not sure that makes sense.... Hugs Marion W

The unmounted fare slightly better - I treated myself to some thin plastic folders with clips (don't know how else to explain them) The Sheet of pictures is face out on one side and the stamps on top face up so I can see them. As the clips have labels - they are all sorted. i.e. Joanna oriental, Joanna Flower Fairy, Tilda, etc etc. - so I can just look at the clip on the front and take folder I want out. Think I shall go through the wooden ones though and stamp them all as Tess suggested - might actually remember what I have then! Mags

I doubt if I have anywhere near the number of stamps you have either he he I'm not green with envy honest !! he he Jenny M xx

If I get too many in one section I sub-divide them. All my stamps are on EZmount and stored in ring binders, so I don't have boxes to go through any more. I think as you have a system you should as has been suggested - cross reference them which will be easier in the long run, rather than rearrange them all. I wish you luck because it can be a daunting task. Jan

Now I have all my Christmas ones in a huge box under the bed plus um Christmas in a folder. The rest are vaguely sorted by subject in lots of drawers or folders (ums) and I just have to do a search when I want one. Funnily enough, I usually know where most of them are, but I do forget what I've got quite often and now have more than one of about half a dozen! One I liked so much I bought it 3 times!! I used to stamp them faithfully into a book and took it with me, but that stopped about 10 years ago. I'm afraid I'm like Mags now. Christmas, The Rest!! Janet

It is a NIGHTMARE for all of us. A couple of years ago I bought three tall, slim units from Ikea with drawers about 4 cms deep and about A4 in size. Also read my forthcoming method for boxes ! I lined the drawers with thin, white card. Arranging the various stamps first to get the most out of the drawers, I stamped the images to establish where they SHOULD go back ! It is ' Theme' based, if you like, as I this is what I do. For example, ' Architecture', ' Butterflies', ' Flowers' etc., I go further making nice, neat typed labels on the computer for the fronts of the drawers and I put the whole lot in alphabetical order. ( How sad am I ?!!!). This makes it quick to scan the categories and what's more, much to my OWN amazement, they have stayed that way for nearly TWO YEARS !! Unmounted stamps. I recycle all the A4 cardboard that comes in every pack of Joanna's card . Stamp the unmounted stamps on a piece of thin card or paper. Stick this to the cardboard and cover with cheap acetate. This provides both a good surface on which to put the stamps, especially if they are backed with EZ Mount and instant recognition as to whee the stamps belong. The whole lot go in to a binder with clear pockets. This sounds time consuming but is really not too bad. From time to time I attack a few more stamps !! However, I have found that this really has helped me to find stamps very quickly. Hope this helps ! Best wishes Sonia

Posts: 10704 (03/07/2008 09:14:49) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	It`s best if I don`t tell you how mine are stored - other than in groups in clear bags I good tip from a while back was to stamp and keep a record of all the stamps you have - I was lazy and didn`t want to mess them up and then have to clean them all so I went to the website and copied the stamp image to a blank word sheet and have about 8 sets on one sheet - that way I know what`s in what set There are lots of ways which suit people but will follow this thread to get some more great tips Suzanne
