I've just E mailed the D of E head office with this complaint and suggested that the check point papers should be retained at the end of the walk to prove that it has been done properly and that the staff have overseen the kids.

I know that 99% of the staff are very good but We've had some very sad happenings here in this Dale with school staff that are basically incompetent and due to their total ignorance the lives of two children were lost,although this was not a D of E walk it was a geograph field trip from Leeds and the party was made to do river walking along a beck, after 24 hours of torrential rain .The locals told the staff it was foolish to try and cross the then very swollen beck ,about 40 feet in width, using the crossing stones that were under water but they new better. The
kids weren't roped together .
It's no fun looking for bodies!
