Bring back the discussions |
Lead | |
|
I was reminded today of how we used to have long drawn out discussions and debates. I think we should try bringing them back, a good friendly debate (with the
emphasis on friendly) can be fun and enlightening. So, anyone want to start???

Good idea. The only problem is I'm sitting here trying to think of something reasonably intelligent to debate about and my mind has gone totally blank - no
funny replies please.

Isn't it a bit late for an in-depth discussion Tina? My brain doesn't work at this time of night. No, I know, it doesn;t work well at any time!

Just as long as the politicians expense accounts
/ 2nd home
allowances are NOT the subject I think a 'Heated Debate' would be
good!

Totally agree Tina................
erm........ I'll start if you like! What would YOU do if you were in the position to do anything about all the knife crime happening now? I realise this is a pretty serious topic but I do think that women generally have far more sensible solutions to these things. (sorry guys - no offence meant). C xx |

Does that mean anything Tina? or do we have to keep away from certain subjects ? and what are they?

You read my mind Carol, that is what I was going to start with.
I was discussing this today with my husband, he thinks they should bring back capital punishment, but I don't think that would be the answer. I don't think that the people who commit those crimes think about the consequences. Adele x |

Yep Carol, you could start a thread like that, put debate on it next to teh title, then we will know.
Adele, I don't think most subjects are taboo, we just need to be aware of who reads the forum and if they could upset too many people. Things like Carol has said that are in the news seems fair. Its Okay Paula, you don't need to start one now, this is anytime, just bringing it up so you can get thinking |

Good topic Carol. It is difficult to control knife possession but think that as there are more police around during the turn out of pubs/clubs at weekends that
more stop and search should be done. Also when I was a youngster during the Irish troubles as there had been several bombs in B'Ham pubs every club we went
into the doormen/bouncers had the power to search everyone. This usually meant that the lads had to turn out all their pockets and the young women had their
handbags inspected. So why isn't more being done by bouncers now? It seems that several of the knife attacks have happened either inside or just outside
clubs so where were these bouncers????

I'll start a new thread for this one............ if anyone thinks of anything else they can start another one? Then people can join in or not as they wish.

I daresay it was me that reminded Tina about all the great debates and discussions we used to have. I can remember when a thread went on
for a few days, and no-one wanted to miss other peoples experiences. We had debates about
DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS? NDEs.?//GHOSTS? BURGLARIES, what annoys you most.....all sorts of things. and everyone wrote about their own experiences. No one was made to feel silly mentioning something that had happened to them in the past. Strange happenings, and ghostly stories. That was a particular thread that was unmissable! There are lots of new people on here now, and everyone can add their own bit of spice//gore to give everyone a good read. I haven't posted very much lately, don't jump on what I'm going to say. I know it's Joannas "craft" forum, but I used to enjoy the fact that a lot of us were in the same position, and showed our cards, a couple perhaps in a week, to get comments etc, because we were ALL learning new techniques etc at the same time , but what made this forum GREAT was the diverse range of subjects that we would all discuss and join in with, whether it be something that REALLY annoyed you, to something that went "bump" in the night. I know a lot of people do challenges, and that's their perogative, but it isn't meant to be the mainstay of a forum, and be the content of every other post. Now lots of threads have links to blogs etc, again, it's the persons perogative, but I always classed this as Joannas forum, and not an advertising ground for challenges from other forums. I know I'm going to get jumped on by certain people, but lots of my friends on here have mailed me to ask why I'm not posting, and that's the reason. It's only MY opinion, which I am entitled to. I would like to see the heart back in it, like it was before. I came on a couple of weeks ago, just to have a catch up, and on the first 2 pages there were 12 challenge threads, and not one of them was to do with this forum. As I said, there are lots of new people on here, that are experiencing the forum as it is NOW, but I'm pretty sure, well in fact I know, that lots of us "oldies" would be still playing a bigger part had it not taken this direction. It's still the best forum to belong to, I just hope Tinas suggestion takes off. luv Jacqui x |

Hi Jacqui. Good to see you posting again. I agree with your views ( I did start a thread a few months ago with regard to the number of individual challenges
being posted......) but I think we have to accept that change is part of the nature of forums such as this. It is good to see lots of new members taking part.
There are lots of forum based activities - I am thinking about ATC swaps, Birthday card exchanges, Angel envelopes, Fat Book challenges, competitions and the
new weekly card challenge - and these are all extremely well supported by forum members. Perhaps if more of 'oldies' posted the balance might be
redressed a little. Anyway - just my opinion. Tess x

Hi,
I have to agree with Adele's husband on this one re- Capital Punishment, my personal opinion is that it would hopefully act as a deterant and these THUGS would have to think twice before putting the fsmilies through so much pain. I think as it is getting to be more like America (crime wise) we should take a leaf from their book and really go to town with prison sentences and not be as soft. Also get rid of some of these do-gooders. I will now step down from my soapbox LOL Arlene |
