Good to see you back Jacqui - and at the risk of being jumped on by people - I too think there are far more challenge threads than there used to be. Don't
get me wrong, it is nice to see other people's work and I learn a lot from them but I am happy with this forum's based things - the new weekly
challenge is great and I hope a lot of people continue adding their cards to it.

Nice to see that hat again Jacqui, please come back we miss you. What Carol has just said is very true, I too enjoy the Forum weekly challenge because it gives
us all a chance and of course it is optional, not everyone can do a card every week but it is there for anyone who wants to enter. I find when there are so
many posts you tend to miss them. I also welcome the hug thread because it gives me a chance to send hugs to everyone who needs them and that way I don't
miss anyone.................... I hope I have not offended any one but we are all entitled to our opinions.

Great to see you on the forum Jacqui - missed you loads - when I first started looking at this forum there was loads of discussions going on and it was very
interesting to read other peoples comments on what was going on in the world, it is great to see that Tina wishes for it to start up again - WELL DONE TINA!!
It was the diversity of this forum which made up my mind to join - it was soooo different from all the others and, may I say, better.
Hope to see you again on the forum very soon Jacqui. Hugs Trisha |

I have to say I like both the descussions - many of which have started again today and the challenges too - at first I thought there were quite a few but I
know what i`m opening when I click on the thread and it`s wonderful to see all the hard work involved in the cards
After all it is a craft forum so I think they have there place - Since the Hilton weekend I have come back and been more open minded about different techniques and styles and I love seeing all the different ideas I love the challenge on this forum - so many different ideas and lots taking part So keep up the fantastic forum I say Suzanne |

well, here I am, just logged on, thinking I had perhaps been jumped on, and instead have had lots of messages and emails, where so many
people have said "likewise". I quite agree with Tess, about THIS forums based activities, and also when she posted some time ago, I put my 2 pennorth
in there (could never keep my mouth shut, as most of you well know) I would much rather be honest, and say how I feel, I don't mean to upset anyone, and as
I said, it's just MY opinion.
As for the debate about knives, I don't think there is ANY deterrent, like they have been saying in the papers and on TV, the youngsters are carrying knives "just in case" someone else has one. As usual they seem to need a weapon, to make themselves feel "big" and in with the crowd. they have no respect for human life anymore, and it's just getting worse and worse. They have no thoughts or feelings for the bereaved families that have to stay and try to pick up the pieces after their own youngsters have been murdered. They're afraid to be IN a gang and at the same time, afraid NOT to be in one. Whoever said we're getting more like America everyday, hit the nail on the head. I dread to think of the future sometimes, and I admit I'm a coward, and I wouldn't be out in the streets at night. The law has to throw the book at them, and lock them up, take away privileges, no telly, pool tables and all the other stuff that they get inside prison. Make them work! If our prisons were anything like the American ones I've seen on TV , perhaps these youths would think twice about the possibility of being locked away for even a couple of years!! |

Well spoken Jacqui - at least in America when they put someone in prison for killing someone it is for life - until they die either naturally or with
execution. In this country of ours life only means about seven years and the kids who commit these horrific crimes are given a new name and relocated with
acommodation and money to offend again - there is NO deterent in this country. Maybe we should bring back conscription - a stint in the army especially the
basic training would knock some of the steam out of them. Thats what I think anyway.

I think we are starting to get some good discussions going, maybe you ladies have some ideas too?

I too would love to see more discussions, like we used to have. I too also agree there are too many challenges, which would be better off on one thread, as the
hug thread is, that way we can see them all if we choose too, and others threads started asking for help etc aren't shoved to page 2 or 3 without a
response sometimes. What happened to the poll we had about this very subject a few weeks ago, when I last looked at it the majority was for a single challenge
thread? Sorry if I have upset anyone, its just my opinion.

Hi Suzi, the poll was for the JS weekly challenges not for challenges in general. However, if enough people would like a poll on this subject (all challenges
on one thread) Then of course we will run one. At the moment, the people who do daily challenges are kindly sticking to one thread of their own a day, so we
would have to have a daily challenge thread.
Over to the forum ............... |

Let's vote. The idea of a single daily challenge thread ( like the hugs and birthday thread ). Tess x

Sorry Tina, I must have misread the original post about challenges, my apologies. Yes a vote seems very fair to me, I am happy to go along with the majority.

The great debate! | ||

I was listening to this (the knife problem) being discussed on Radio 4 this morning and I like everyone else am horrified that these,.particularly the serrated
ones can be bought in specialist shops so easily. And then I began to wonder why could it not be that anyone who wishes to buy a knife should have to get a
permit issued by a police station which would have to be handed over to the shop if they wanted to make a purchase. The seller before making the sale would
phone the station of issue to verify the purchaser was indeed the true owner of the permit (I'm trying in the meantime to think of all the answers to
"ah but, what if...." questions. If you think of any come up with an answer. The knife, if then used illegally (what IS a legal use for these
collecters items?) may then be traced back to the puchaser. It has to be up to the parent to do a daily count of household knives explaining to their
offspring's that it isn't a question of not trusting but having to be extra vigilant in this dreadful age and if their child could know that all
parents were doing the same then their lives would be safer on the streets. Ask children if they have ever heard of a child who has used a knife in self
defense - it's never mentioned in the media. It would seem that only the innocent are the victims. So carrying a knife is no deterrent. HAnd now lets get
really hopeful and ask why can we not istall metal detectors at all pub and club entrances that peep when something shows up. I know all the negative answers
to that but do we want to clear this scurge or not. Hmm, I have one ear on the TV (Sunday night) where it has just been mentioned that there is to be a debate
on this very topic tonite. What\s the betting that some do gooder mentions the right of everyone to have a weapon to defend themselves. My partner thinks
I'm going on a bit and I think he is right. Any other ideas?
