I had been doing the garden, and was almost finished, just trimming the lawn edges by the side of the pond, the sky was getting blacker and blacker and thunder was rumbling above, I only had a couple of feet more to go so decided to finish before the heavens finally opened, then all of a sudden there was this almighty flash of brilliant white light, the whole pond lit up and an almighty bang rang out, it made my ears ring it was so loud. I nearly jumped out of my skin, it was like an enormous short circuit in an electric circuit, that is the only way to describe it.
All the electric in the house went off, alarms were sounding from all around the road.
Hubby switched the electric back on and we were talking about it to the neighbours next door. Their power had gone as well and his modem had blown up and his telephone lines were down. Luckily he works for BT so he had another modem, but he still couldnt get online because of the telephone lines being out of action.
Today it is the talk of the road, and we have been so lucky, other people had far worse, one had her laptop blow up as well as her sky box, her telephones are wrecked and her BT box on her top facia is now down on the floor, completely blown off the house.
When it happened Alan was upstairs and he said he ran to the bedroom window expecting to see me stood in the garden with smoke coming out of my hair
He reckons the lightning must have skimmed over my head before hitting ground.
I have never been afraid of storms before, in fact I quite enjoy them, but must admit I have felt a bit edgey today every time it has gone dark and poured with rain.
Lets hope its true what they say that lightning never strikes twice
