CD's & Printing - advice please

Posts: 1001 (07/07/2008 17:49:35) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I have just bought my first 2 CDs from Joanna, the first was Vintage Hollywood and the second was JNM. What I am looking for is some advice on the paper/card I should use for printing. I think the Vintage Hollywood will probably lend itself to photographic paper because there are a lot of B&W images in a photographic format. Do you use different papers for toppers and backing papers or the same? What type of paper should I use and what weight for JNM? Cheers Caroline

For toppers I now use pearl photo paper as it is a good weight & looks slightly different from the backing paper. It works well for decoupage as well. I get mine from Staples or the pound shop but I'm sure there are other places too. From time to time I also print onto vellum or acetate using the transparency setting on my printer. I haven't used glossy photo paper at all but that's my preference as I don't like the end result to be too shiny. Just play around & I'm sure you'll find what suits you. Sheila x

I find it gives the best and sharpest image but that might just be my printer. C xx

It largely depends on the look I want to get. Photographic paper definitely intensifies the colour, experiment, you will see the difference. I use quite a lot from Joanna's shop, such as gloss and the lovely satin paper. However, for the gorgeous Hollywood CD I print on smooth pearl photo paper that is 290 g. The look for those black and white images is stunning. On Jayne Netley Mayhew's CD I found myself using a quite matt look. Try the satin paper from the shop, it is not overly sheeny ( if you will excuse the pun ! ). I felt that the images were so beautiful that they wanted to speak for themselves. I was not tempted to print them on glossy. Backing papers again depend on the mood of the card. Oriental looks good on glossy as do some of the images. However, I love to use glossy or pearl images with a matt background. It is one of my favourite combinations. The satin paper gives a non-glossy look and is a very substantial weight. Don't forget printable vellum and acetate ( all available at our favourite shop ! ). It is so exciting and important to take a bit of trouble over our choice of paper for lovely results. Cheap paper works but seems to use more ink so is probably not CHEAP in the long run. Always remember to tell the printer what's coming in the way of paper, click and GO !! Best wishes Sonia

Posts: 10704 (08/07/2008 08:41:38) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I like to use different types of papers - like with the Teddy image I use fuzzy inkjet paper and the Dragonfly a pearl shimmer paper - it just brings the wings alive I tend to use a plain rey text for the background if I have used a photo paper for the main focus The carp here is done on glossy photo paper and it just brings it alive what with decoupaging it too - just printing it off now as my Mum wanted to know how it`s done The most important thing is to just play with different ideas and papers and find what suits you as there are so many variations to be used Enjoy the cd`s Suzanne

I like using satin photo papers and heavier weight vellum. I love using linen type papers/card and that snowy embossed type card (don't know the proper name for it) but it gives a beautiful effect especially on some of the floral fantasy images. I have tried printing onto pearlescent paper and too and that is lovely. I do prefer printing onto card than paper. I have made some beautiful double sided backing card from some of the backgrounds on floral fantasy using linen effect or embossed card and it is just gorgeous, great for card blanks and making co-ordinating boxes. My proplem is that I have a laser colour printer so I can't use the papers and printable acetates from Joanna's shop or from pound shops, so I just experiement with different things. If it doesn't work out it is only a piece of paper or card. I like trying things out just to see what effect I can get! At the moment double sided printing is my fav.

If it is for a bakcing papaer I use standard 90gsm inkjet paper, but for decoupage I use thicker paper and for stackits, pyramage or single toppers I use card which I tend to buy in bulk from a local shop (am I allowed to say names here?)
