Would I give her my credit card details to refund for an order that hadnt gone through on the 4th July. I was confused and couldnt think properly as the only thing I had ordered was the pick of the day and that was being despatched. I declined to give her my details I said I dont think it sounds quite right, she assured me she was from IW. She said if you dont tell the details you will have to sort it yourself when your statement comes from your credit card. Anyway I remembered I had tried to order on the IW website twice and it told me errors had occured, so I went to C&C and orderd there. Thats what they are talking about and they have taken my money even though the transaction didnt finish. I have now got to get £40 back try explaining that to the customer services. Would you have given your credit card details? Marilyn

I think it's highly unprofessional of them to expect customers to do that too, in this world of fraud etc and all we're told about keeping details safe. I'd be inclined to write to them and state how unhappy you were at being asked this way. Jane xxx

Did you ask for the operators name?? Surely they should have a record of someone getting in contact with you. Try and remember and collect as many details about the call as you can, that way you'll feel more in control of any telephone conversation you have with I.W. As most of you will know, Daughter works in P.F..They have been told NEVER give out your BIRTH DATE as part of any security questions. Point-blank refuse. I had something similar the other day when Freemans catalogue rang me at home and wanted me to give personal details to confirm who I was, and they were the ones who had rung me! The chap on the other end was really put out when I refused! About a month a go I had to have my credit card account completely closed and a new one set up as someone had been using it illegally. The credit card company were fantastic but it was a real pain and quite scary so I am extra careful now. You hear so many horror stories, you don't know who to trust. Sue

If it was a refund to your account, then the lady should have been able to tell you what it was for anyway - then you would have known it was ok. I'm not sure they retain details of card transactions ............. even where I work we have to either black out details on file or shred the info once the transaction has gone through. C xx

As Sheila says above, they took the money from your card and as such they should have the transaction details including your card details already - this sounds very much like a scam !! I would always take her name and telephone number and then call the Ideal World Number in the UK to check - if you get no joy then you could always pass the details onto the Police to check them out !! I have bought things on line and when some items were out of stock the companies have refunded my card and never asked me for my details a second time. I think you did the right thing. Jan

Also, they should have been able to refund without asking for your details, I recently placed an order with Joanna's store and because something was out of stock they credited the amount back to my card without having to contact me for any information first. lol Chrissie xx

It did get sorted but took quite a number of phone calls. They haven't got the best customer serviced department. You were quite right not to give your credit card details to whoever phoned.
