Dental nightmare |

Good morning all you early birds out there. I didn't sleep well last night and I was awake at about 4 am so I thought I'd have a look on the forum and
see if anyone else was up. I had a rotten day yesterday. I had to go to the dentist (a dental specialist) as my bridge fell out a few weeks ago and the tooth
that the bridge was cemented on to had broken so my bridge was stuck back in on to my gums, which means it will keep coming out, which is not practical as I
can't eat anything on that side, or even brush my teeth on that side. Anyway, to cut a long story short (if I can), I had to see a specialist yesterday to
see what could be done for me as I don't want to spend the rest of my life with the top right part of my mouth gummy (toothless!). The dentist said I have
to have implants put in there. That didn't seem too bad but then he said that as my sinuses are low down in that area I will have to have a bone graft
before I can have the implants put in . This is an operation which will take 3 hours that's as well as having the implants put in. The treatment will take
over a year to complete as this procedure has to be done in stages. I don't know what's worse, having the procedure done, or paying the bill. Wait for
it ....... this is going to cost me £8,000. That's why I couldn't sleep properly last night. I don't know what I was worrying about the most, the
pain or the cost. I'm trying to forget about it, but it keeps coming back into my head.
Sorry to go on but I needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for listening, Love June x x x |

Hi Katrina
The thing is you can't get this done on the NHS so it has to be done privately. I didn't go to Harley Street, just a normal high street dentist. What makes it so expensive is that the treatment will take 1 year to complete and everything they do costs hundreds, if not thousands. To have the bone graft alone costs £2,500 plus £450 for the anaesthetist, that's without the implants, and I have to have a CT scan and that costs £200. It all adds up. That's without the pain and discomfort of it all. I suppose it could be worse!! Enjoy your day Katrina x x x |

June I am so sorry to read about your problems. The pain alone is bad enough, but all that money!! It's criminal. No wonder you were up a lot last night.
Wish I had a magic wand I could wave for you, but all I can do is send you lots of hugs. Hope things work out for you.

Poor you, it never seems fair when you have to pay so much to the dentist when you are in pain. Hope it will not be as bad as you think.

What an awful thing to happen to you am so sorry .Is there any way you could visit a teaching dental school ?,If not is there no way you could have a complete
set of top false teeth - the reason why I say this is that my daughter suffered gum disease and this was suggested to her but in the end the dentist who
teaches at a university dental school took them all out and the new teeth are marvellous and look so good . What ever happens the very best of luck.

I thought my experience was bad enough. I had to have all my top teeth out by the age of 28
having three children did something to my gums and my teeth literally dropped or had to pulled out/. Then false teeth! But I really do think in those days it was a case of if you can't fix it , then pull it out. Can't remember how many sets I have had ,but a montha ago I went dentists for some new ones and they cost £190. But apparently if you only have to have 1 false tooth it costs the same as what I paid. Where is the sense in that? |

A friend of mine always went to one of the London Teaching hospitals......... never paid a penny but was treated by the top people. Worth finding out about.

Sorry to hear this June. My eldest is due to go for an op next month on his jaw and during the op they're going to graft some bone into his top gum ready
for an implant as he had problems with his front teeth not coming through. Luckily his treatment is being done on the NHS and he'll end up with two or
three implants by the time they've finished. I certainly don't envy you.

Sorry to hear of your problems June, think I would take the cowards way out, and go for a set of false teeth, less pain and a whole lot less money. I wish you
luck whatever you choose to have done.

I do sympathise with you. Dental charges are ridiculous. I have just finished treatment, thank goodness, cos my knees knock just going through the door for a
checkup. I had to have two fillings, totalling £110, one of my front teeth filed down £10 (it took two minutes to do ), and an extraction £30 plus examination
fee £17 and hygienist £20. It's a difficult decision you have to make but hopefully it will work out in the end.

Hi June, I know this is an old thread and you may have started treatment but I have had 5 implants done,a sinus lift and a bone graft plus extractions, i now
have a lovely set of teeth. I went abroad for my treatment and was very very pleased, if you would like more info just email me. The cost of all my treatment
came to £9600 and took just over 9 months, yes painful but well worth it

It's a pity you can't have just one implant to replace the one that broke and then have the bridge cemented to it. Did they offer you any alternatives
?
My mother had a problem with her front top teeth and had a partial plate made with four teeth on it rather than a complete top set, which she has no problems with. Dental charges are no joke, a newspaper article a few weeks ago said they're more expensive than garages. Jan |
