1. Just lately C&C have had craft kits where you simply stick decoupage onto a ready made card. Is this really crafting?
2. Do you really what to make a card that looks shop bought?
My Opinion
1. I think these kits are so simple and leave nothing to he imagination or even real creativity.Probably OK if you sell your cards
2. There are a lot of card shop in my area that sell cards at very reasonable prices. I make cards that are unique and personalised so they could not be
bought. I love starting with a plain card and a few embellishments and finishing with my own little work of art.

I have bought a couple of these kits when they were reduced and have found them useful for quick cards - I cut up the card and mount it on larger cards, add
embellishments etc. I also like making cards from scratch, using stamps etc. but think there is also a place for the kits.

First of must say not been watching a lot of c & c lately, either busy crafting or can't gain control of remote.
I suppose these kits are useful to people either just starting crafting, until they can get the hang of it and get the confidence to do their own thing or for people who have difficulties. If they enable people to 'break' into the joy crafting then i think they are a good thing, but me personally wouldn't be buying them. Just my tuppence worth as i can't spend it elsewhere nothing that cheap lol love and hugs take care Teejay x |

Oooh my biggest gripe with the craft industry... dumb it down so much that there's no challenge. If they arent careful they'll bore people into a
different hobby.
They are a good starter point for those who mistakenly believe they couldnt do anything "fancy" and ok for those who want to make loads really quickly. I like something that takes thought & time, preferably with nowt but paper/card & a few tools. |

I too think there is a place for both.......... still learning in a lot of areas and the kits have helped me to work out how things are done - and given me a
chance to make some different things........... I think for people just starting up they are brilliant since they give a good foundation to start learning
from.
I like making from scratch too but if the inspiration isn't there (or the ability) the kits fill the gap and I find you can still be creative with them as well. C xx |

I thinks it's a case of horses for courses.
1. I like to be creative but sometimes time constraints mean that I don't have time to craft like I want to, then I use kits but there is nothing written in stone to say that they can't be personalised somehow and sometimes the creative part is making them look different. Given the same basics I'm sure that if members of the forum were all asked to make a card then they would all be different. 2. There are people who like to craft who are not as talented as others (I hold my hand up to this one) and need guidance on how to do things and slowly work up to starting from a blank canvas. i agree i dont like fold and stick having said that in the past i have brought so many dawn dibby kits that looked good at the time but now sit unsued as new
all 12 of them in a cupboard i dont think i will ever used them keep thinking i will go through them take out all the good stuff like mirror card and vellums
and dump the rest on mencaps card making group i like to make up my own cards i dont even buy ready made cards would sooner just have a large amout of card
stock i do love the glitter girls boards

Personally I think when people use these kits they are being a card maker (and I guess we all have to make a quick card now and again) but making a card from
scratch, you become a card crafter - it is a craft that takes practise and a degree of skill acquired through making mistakes, looking at cards made by others
and making your own version or copying an idea from a book or magazine etc.
I have a number of kits and use bits from them and adapt some of the contents to make a card needed in a hurry, but I never get the same satisfaction as I do from stamping or parching or using any technique that takes time and imagination. I prefer to make fewer cards and spend time on each one, so that I can be proud of the finished result and not produce something just like hundreds of othere. Just my two-pennorth!! Janet |

I've bought quite a few of thse kits, mainly for Christmas. I make Christmas cards for Charity so the way I see it the quicker the better and the made up
cards are my donation to the Charity so anything they get for them is a profit. I have bought other kits on the past and tend not to use them the way
they're meant or demonstarted. I just mkae the cards the way I want to and add a little bit of me to them.
Now to put the cat amongst the pigeons - Aren't CD's just the same as card kits? They have the toppers, matching backing papers and inserts. Print it off, stick to card and voila. Is that not the same as a card kit? I love CDs and use them all the time and don't feel that either they or kits stop me from being creative and adding my own touch to the cards. I think that anything that gets people into card making / crafting is a good thing, be it card kits or CDs. It should be a hobby that is open to everyone despite the level of their skills and different abilities. Love Jill x

I think the kits are great - but are far too big. I like the products but would like the option of going for half a kit or less and the cost more like £10-£15.
The quality of C&C kits are excellent and good value for money but I just don't want to make 40 cards out of one kit. Alison x |

I dont go a bundle on these cards that look done before you do anything to them, i cant see the point if they look shop brought , its almost like a snobbery ,
hand made = bad , i think to make a special card & make it from scratch is more important than a card & a bit of die cut decopage slapped on the top no
matter how profesional it looks , well thats what they keep telling us
If i wanted a card to look shop brought i would buy one & send it |

I have ordered a couple of these kits as they are just what I need when I have no mojo of my own. I bought two last year and the Christmas POTD this week. I
think they are great value for money and they have their place in my stash.
I do prefer to come up with ideas from scratch but sometimes nothing presents itself and we all have days like that. Jill also has a point re: CDs but I think there is more allowance for individual creativity with them than with a prepared kit. Regardless of all that I love all the available options.  Just addicted I suppose.

I bought one tsv two years ago but it wasn't a kit as such. There were cards with backgrounds in soft colours and loads of packs of embellishment's,
ribbons etc all of which colour toned. I was starting out and found it great, just what I needed as it still had to be thought out but no worries about not
going together. I still have some bits left which my greatgrandaughter will finish off for me. The kits on c&c are definitely not for me, I think they are
boring.... No offence to those who like them

Like most of those who replied I sometimes use kits, altough I haven't bought any for a while but even these packs can be used in conjunction with own
stocks and if in a hurry can get you out of a hole or if you have alot to make they can still be individual.
I have a box full of Dawn Bibby kits while are virtually untouched mainly because the forever changing fashion of crafting and the tools available. this is also noticable in CDs. I like to think my cards are hand crafted not "home made" which in my book is sticking a ready made topper to a printed card but as other have said this does help people to get into crafting. Jenny |

charity then you can make a good profit on cards that are fast to make, and you can also separate bits of them and make something completely different.

I think having a CD is more like having a shop - it's there if you want it but you don't have to use all the images, just the ones you like - as many times as you like. I only make cards for friends and family so I make them when I'm in the mood or when I've seen something I like. As I make several at a time it means I don't need to make quick cards in a hurry. But we're all different. I know I want my cards to look like I spent time making them for the person concerned and not like something I nipped out to buy. I think instead of calling shop bought professional cards implying all other cards are made by amateurs, we should call them mass produced cards as that's what they are and ours are then unique handcrafted cards. have to admit to having bought die cut decoupage books this year for Xmas as I haven't time to cut them myself.

I don't like the pop out and stick on kind of card, there is no real work going into them and they all look the same. I've got a lot of friends and
family who come to me for cards, because mine are so different from shop bought ones. The last kit I saw on C+ C actually had the cards already printed with a
main design with just one place to put on the topper, which was die-cut decoupage, on top of that they even had pre-printed and cut to size inserts. No
imagination or thought going into the card at all. I also won't buy packs of ready made toppers either, would much rather make my own with a rubber stamp,
or teabag rosette or some kind of embellishment. I don't think the cd's are the same because we actually have to do the cutting out for decoupage,
cutting and matting and layering of the topper, doint different things with the background papers.

hmm interesting reading. i brought a christmas kit from create and craft 2 years ago and last night i was using some of the paper, mind you lovely paper. i
have given rest of the kit which were stickers to a friend who makes cards but doesnt have much spare money as she is a student. the only other kit i brought
was a christmas one last year from QVC. only brought it because i wanted the stencils and i was so surprise to see how much i got in the box when it arrived
and i was impressed.
i do like a make a card from scatch as well. as for the cd's, well i use a lot of the backing papers for different cards and on different toppers. i made a chrsitmas card the other day and looked at it and it had robert addams backing papers on it, Joanna;s topper, wendy stenton template and sue smith's toppers - all on one card. love june b |
