Posts: 29908 (26/07/2008 14:28:27) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I paid a visit to Borders my favourite book shop where you can browse your books, CDs, DVDs etc and enjoy a starbucks coffee at the same time, only to find out it was closing down. This is a sudden thing according to the very unhappy staff. Its so sad to see the shop almost completely stripped as I do love going there. I did buy a few bits at 50% off, mainly things to help with my French and a book on French house buying as well as a very large DIY book that Aidan wanted. Just over the road a huge modern furniture store is also closing down, things are not looking good at Lakeside.

I also love Borders, our closest is at Cheshire Oaks and I love visiting it - I leave Peter sitting in the comfy chairs reading joke books while I browse the craft books. I hope ours is doing okay, it always seems busy - I would be really sad if it closed.

I suppose part of the problem might be the likes of online biggies like Amazon and Play ... difficult to compete. A publisher phoned me recently to ask if I'd consider stocking baby related books in my shop but I just couldn't match the prices that the big guys charge ... they can place huge bulk orders rather than my punie ones ... and books are quite heavy to post which would eat in to any profit I could have made. It's a shame that high street stores are feeling the pinch ... it's good for consumers to have a choice.

Posts: 5283 (26/07/2008 14:43:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	thats a shame tina i have never been to lakeside well only the bus station when i got this mad idea to go from leytonstone to southend by bus for free had to change buses at lakeside took 2and a half hours from lakeside to sothend in all from here it tookover 3and a half hours to do the trip

Ours is still open for now, hope it stays that way as we've already lost Waterstones in the city centre.
