I was very fond of their aunt as well, so maybe that is affecting how I go about it, as when my father in law died, I didn't make any cards at all then either as I just couldn't bear to. I would appreciate your advice as to how I can make some simple yet effective cards (I need 3). I haven't got Heavenly Cards, but have almost all of Joanna's other CDs. Thank you for any thoughts you may have, I'm feeling very annoyed with myself, apart from quite sad as you do with any death, it's the end of an era. Lavender XX

It's only natural that you feel the way you do, it's hard to make cards for someone when you are personally affected by their death. If you have the Victorian Angels and Fairies CD, on page 2 there is an image of an angel holding on to a cross. I have used it many times for sympathy cards and it's very effective. I hope that you manage to make them, it will mean a lot to your friends. Ann x

Posts: 224 (01/08/2008 01:03:53) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Lavender i am sorry about your friends Aunt and understand how hard it is for u to make cards at this time, Joanna's CD Cardmakers Year has some lovely floral photographs and these on a plain card with simple message are all ways acceptable, a simple cross also looks well on a condolence card, but if it is too hard for u do not feel guilty about buying cards this time, no one will think any the less of u, after all it is thought that is the most important at this moment, letting them know that they are in your thoughts Pauline

I often use images from the Gardens section on Oriental Dreams (I have also used the lady from Victorian Companion) ... I either simply mat and layer or cut into jigsaw pieces and put one off kilter. Very often I add three gems to one corner too. I know the jigsaw one isn't from OD, but it will hopefully give you the idea. Hope that is of some use. I kept it very simple.

You can't go wrong with flowers. It's not easy to make these cards so I make a card or two and keep them in a box like I do with any other card. Then I only have to do an insert, which can be difficult - but not as hard. Jan

This is only a suggestion but why not make a thinking of you card with lovely flowers and try not to think (yes I know it's hard not to think about what it's really for) about the sad part of it...but think of it as lifting their spirits a bit. These cards are difficult to make and I think Suzanne has the right idea to try to treat them like making any other card. I have had to make a couple of sympathy cards recently and used the lily of the valley image on Floral Fantasy. It is a beautiful image, and in the past I've also used some of the lady and daffodil images on Dancing With Shadows. I am not a religious person so I tend to use flowers on these type of cards instead of crosses etc. Wishing you all the best. Susan x

It's not easy to make this type of card for someone you have been very fond of. When my uncle died, I just cut a cross from holographic card to go on a white A5 card, and a smaller one which went in the bottom corner of the card. I just kept my mind firmly on my aunt, just hoping that my card would help her. Simplicity is the key for these cards, I always feel. Hugs Paula x

For once why not just buy a card not to put yourself through more emotion. I do find personally the longer you leave speaking to bereaved friends or sending a card the harder it gets , sometimes just a hug or holding someones hand helps them and you if you live near .

I spoke to my friends earlier yesterday evening when they told me of their loss, so as a card would not be the only gesture - but would be as well as texting, talking and attending the funeral - I've decided not to make any but buy some really nice ones instead. I will take on board the suggestion of having some sympathy cards in stock as this will help in future, it's a very good idea. Thank you for being there Lavender XX

When I feel like this in the past I have always bought or asked a friend to make it for me. The one time I did manage to sit down to make one I put everything I had into and cried most of the time I was doing it but the whole thing was very therapeutic for me in the grieving and healing process. I like to think of what the person liked in the way of seasons or colours to make it special to them and take it from there. As far as images go there are some lovely images on the Victorian Angels & Fairies and some very nice suitable floral images on the Floral Fantasy CD. Warm wishes my friend. Wendy -x-
