I have problems with punches as they seem to need a lot of pressure behind them at times. I wanted to punch some thick paper and as usual could'nt.

I often stand on my large punches to get them to cut well but another tip for the smaller ones is to use a small hard-backed book to press down instead of trying to use your thumb which is often difficult - or you could try a small block of wood as long as it quite a bit larger than the push bit on the top of the punch. This idea also works if you using the punch upside down as it makes sure you don't cut yourself!

might be worth investing in one of the punch mates, makes life a whole lot easier if you find them hard to punch, I do and works for me, Sue

2 of my punches, border ones, have bits of the cutting design that have moved, so the design wont cut properly, and one has a bit broken away so do be careful.
One is a friskers, too. I didn't cut thick card, and they were all hardly used, but my old favorites are still going strong on the same card. I wondered
if they are using cheaper materials to mass poduce quicker or something.

I have had some real disappointments with my Fiskars border punches especially the lace design, as the cutting mechanism won't release the paper. Has
anyone else had this problem and managed to resolve it?

Same here with the Fiskars border punches, I have had 2 which have never worked properly and gave up the ghost after just a few punches.
You can get Punch Mates in lots of craft stores, some makes obviously go under a different name, but they all do the same thing. Sue |

What my brother did for me when I had to make 150 wedding invitations, using my Fiskars Border Punch that kept jamming really bad. He got some paper and and a
large candle and rubbed a thick coating of wax along both back and front of the edge of the paper, then punched through it several times. It done the trick and
i was able to continue punching the remaining 100 invitations that i had to finish!
To this day its working fine. Carol x |
