It's not just a north/south divide that people perceive. I am from the West Country (Somerset) and we are seen as wearing smocks with a piece of straw
hanging from our mouths and carrying a pitchfork. I get so many weird and wonderful comments from people who should know better, when I have to telephone
accounts departments in my job. I have worked in London, and my brother still lives there, but for some of them the world ends at the M25 boundary!!! lol

In my experience, for crafters especially, there is no divide at all, be it national or international.
Last year, I joined up with some internet friends from "The South" to go to the Ally Pally Stitching show. It was brilliant. Chatting with all and sundry all the way round the show. They said I sounded like Coronation Street, I said that they sounded like Eastenders  I went down there expecting the Londoners to be cold and standoffish. not a bit
of it.
My Cousin's Son, who is from Surrey, teases me by calling me the one who talks funny. I respond by laying on the Lancy with a trowel. It is all sithee, nobbut, that maunt, that caunt etc. Bottom line. Treat folk properly and they will respond |

I love the different accents. Like I said we are caravanners and we meet
people from all over. Eleven years ago we met a couple from Essex we were in the Dordoyne in France and we meet up every year at least once, We have such a laugh after a couple of drinks a game of trivial persuit takes hours. We are always mistaken for Geordies (which I dont mind at all ) but we are from Middlesbrough and we are Smoggies. We where voted the worst place to live last year yet I am proud of my hometown ,after all Captain James Cook was born here and we have his museum 10 mnutes away. Gill |
