Far too expensive to visit or a nice treat that you don't mind paying for?

I'm happy to pay £30 a ticket for something but in my case it also means we have to have a night away as the trip home is too long to make after the
theatre - and then it really starts being a mega weekend cost - and I adore the theatre - would maybe even run to £50 a ticket - but more than £100 for a night
out is just right off the scale really and with train/hotel and ticket I could be talking £300 .... but I do go locally when something takes my fancy

I wanted to take my daughter to see Hairspray and with hotel for one night it was going to cost nearly £500, just far too much even for a treat, such a shame.
Instead we went to see High School Muscial at Bristol and it was £55 for two tickets and we both loved it (I did not know any of the songs but she did and sang
along)

I cant afford London either, but I am fortunate enough to have a very good theatre locally, Mayflower. I have seen David Essex several time, oohhhhhhh swoon
swoon. More recently I have seen Cats, and Jethro, opposite ends of the spectrum what!. Next visit is in November to see Jim Davidson.

Haven't been to London for years but used to go down regularly and would always go to a show

We went to see Les Miserables at a matinee for about £35 per ticket. We were staying with son and DIL so it meant we didn't have to pay out for a hotel. We
certainly wouldn't travel to London especially to see a show but we like to go when we stay with them.

Love the theatre and am quite happy to pay the ticket price but over £5 for a glass of wine is way to much.
I find that the mini wine bottles from Tescos fit in handbags/pockets perfectly. Sarah xxx |

For the cost of getting to london and staying over the night plus dinner and theatre we could go to spain for a week

I'm afraid we go regardless of price if its something we want to see. We are at Nannies Lawn this Sunday - watching the Garden Opera Company. But then I am
a theatrical 'luvvie anyway!!! Ha! Ha! Jan x

I love the theatre but at £45 a ticket it has to be a treat. I wish I could afford to go more often.

I love the theatre but it's just too expensive, and I don't have to worry about adding on train fares or hotels as I work in London and pay the fare
anyway on a daily basis. But I don't want to get home after midnight and have to get up for work the next day at 6, so Friday would be my choice of night
but it's even more expensive on Fridays!
It's no surprise to me that so many theatres are closing, no one can afford the luxury of a couple of hundred pounds (miniumum) for two tickets and a dinner, and train fare home! Jx |

It would be ok if you lived in London, I'm like everyone else (especially if in Scotland), it's too much once you add the cost of the whole trip.

We might earn more but all our costs are higher because we pay London prices, rent for a 3 bedroom house in my area (unfurnished ) is over £800 a month. If you're on benefits or a pension it's a nightmare and there's a shortage of coucil housing, my neighbours (two families) each have a one bed furnished flat that costs us council tax payers £180 a week each in housing benefit, and it's not their fault they don't earn enough working full time to be able to pay the rent. murchison wrote: You have to be careful of those cheap tickets. My friend and I got some when we were in London for the day and the seats were terrible. We were right next to the stage and just our eyes were slightly above it. Luckily it wasn't full and we could move otherwise we may just as well sat through it with our eyes closed. They also sell ones behind pillars and things like that. |

Have always loved the theatre but the prices are too steep for anything but a treat these days. Still so many opera's I'd love to watch, whether West
End or provinces.
Years ago I used to be able to watch touring orchestra's in the local town hall, that used to cost half my pocket money but was well worth it! Live performances are so much better whether acting dancing or singing, it would be a pity if this form of entertainment were to die due to lack of support. Thers are many youngsters out there learning the skills, alas only a few of them will be able to reach their goals as the theatres close. EuniceX |
