I don't much like the opening ceremony but I love the athletics, the rowing and the cycling.

Will you be watching or is it a great opportunity to get on with some crafting while the family watches?

Not keen on the olympics, but theis time its a little different. My Mams friends son in law (who is from County Durham) now lives in New Zealand and he coaches
the ladies national football team, so he's been in China for a few weeks and apparently they were playing on Wednesday and they got a draw, so John is
happy they have one point. His wife and son have gone over to be with him for a couple of weeks. Jay has only just turned 4 and has spikey blonde hair. The
Chinese love him and want to take his photo where ever he goes. He's a little star. Claire, his Mam, is keeping a very sharp eye on him.
Apparently the New Zealand ladies will be palying again on Saturday. Weird thing is, John did all his qualifications for sports coaching over here, but couldn't get a job. He put his details on the internet and was head hunted by a team in New Zealand, who paid his relocation costs and then he's progressed to coaching a national squad, albeit the ladies team. Crazy situation!! love Jill x |

I am sure my husband and son will watch but I doubt I will. Apart from not really being interested I am sick of the hype/hearing about failed drug tests and of
course the controversy surrounding the decision for China to host the games in the first place and I still don't understand why the committee chose a
country where human rights, freedom and openness barely exist....not to mention the awful pollution

Must admit I wonder why they chose China too - but maybe it will work in a good way by opening China up to more people and bringing human rights issues to the
fore. I will be watching the opening ceremony, and will probably watch the events when there is no good craft programme on!

No, it's not for me, the only sport I watch is the occasional football match. In fact, I don't watch much tv at all. I agree with what Suzy says about
the prblems surrounding the whole thing. I bet thats all we shall hear about now, every time the tv is turned on! More time to spend on the forum, me thinks!!!

No-one is our house has the slightest interest in sport. We may, if bored, watch some archery as we are both archery coaches so might watch from a professional
(very low level though) point of view.

I won't be watching any of it, or the news, for the next two weeks. Can you imagine what it will be like when
it's here? I'm saving up for a long holiday!!
I have a fair coming up at the end of the month so I need to make loads more cards and other stuff. Sue |

Not interested myself but OH will have it on for sure.
The son of one of the ladies I work for is in charge of the transport for the 2012 Olympics and is already spending all his time running around various parts of the country to get things moving - new roads etc. Weymouth (not far from us) has been trying to get a relief road for years and years, all of a sudden it's happening. Why? Because the Olympic sailing is being held there. So I have to hear all about it lol. |

My house is a sportr free zone most of the time. I find the paralympics very watchable but they don't give it very wide coverage. I can't be bothered
with the main olympics, between the drug scandals and the semi professionals competing with what I call real amateurs I find it's moved away from what is
was once about. Too many of them seem to be looking to make a lot of money out it, and it's become a job. Well that's my opinion anyway. I can't
see us winning many medals and the excuses start being made before it starts, we've already had our best boxing medal hope sent home because he can't
make the weight. But don't get me started on that..............

Nope not for me - don't like athletics (or motor sports or tennis) but will happily watch cricket, rugby, and occasionally football and golf. I've watched very little television over the last month (not even watched much craft either) so I'm sure I can find plenty to keep myself occupied if there is nothing interesting to watch. Janet |

Just watching the start of the opening ceremony now. Lots of fireworks! Well ... if the Chinese can't do fireworks, then no-one can - they are the best!
There is a sweet little girl in a red dress, singing, and lots of children in national dress carrying the Chinese flag. Lovely
