Foot and Mouth |
Lead | |
|
Just watching some bad news, there has been a confirmed outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in a farm in Surrey. I feel so sorry for our farmers, so many have
had crops destroyed and now we may have another catastrophe in the making.

Oh no not again. It was awful here the last time and can still smell the carcases burning. Our friends who own the land above us have the largest herd of rare
Gloucester cattle and they will be worried sick again.
Oh fingers crossed it is quickly contained and isolated Lynn xx |

Blast and botheration - Our farmers can't get insurance for flood damaged crops and I don't know whether DEFRA compensates for the animals that they
have to put down.
I've just bought memberships for me, OH and DD for Chester Zoo - last time they shut the zoo to protect the animals. I feel so sorry for the farmers and everyone else who looks after animals as this is going to hit their businesses really hard. I hope it hasn't spread like last time. Ali |

Lots of hugs for livestock farmers in Surrey and farmers everywhere, they are very worried.
Just hope DEFRA and the government get their fingers out this time. Pauline |

I thought the same, it was like being whisked back in time. Horrible. Hope and pray that the cluster is just that and doesn't spread.

On behalf of farmers around the country can I say - Thank you for the good wishes.
I wish we could be as confident in officials as you Katrina - thankfully DEFRA has moved quickly this time - last time they ran around like headless chickens and it got totally out of control before they actually did anything to stop it. Now we just hope and pray that it is contained by the immediate standstill and hope for good news. Many thanks for your concern. |

At least the powers that be seem to be moving quickly this time. It's so awful for our farmers to have to go through this again. Makes you wonder how this
horrible disease has got into the country again, or perhaps it's been lying dormant since the last outbreak. Lots of hugs and prayers for all our farmers
and their livestock.

I'm not a farmer, but I live not very far from Wanborough. My heart goes out to all those with livestock - near or far, it must be so worryng. It's a
miracle that anyone stays in farming these days, with everything stacked against them.

lets hope they act now and make sure it an isolated incident . It was really dreadful last time.

I too hope this is contained quickly and efficently as between the floods devastating the crops and a serious F&T outbreak we could lose more farms and
that would be such a grevious loss. In some parts of the country the farms are the only countryside left (hope that makes sense).
Wishing farmers everywhere goodluck and best wishes. Pauline x |
