So slow |

Hope someone can help. Laptop has been really slow, especially when trying to connect to internet. I think it's got something to do with Norton. We use
Macafee but Norton install page has been on since we got machine. I've tried to remove it from control panel but it won't let me. I keep getting
messages saying AOL can't start as its waiting for some sort of scan from Norton, also wee box keeps popping up saying Symantec email proxy. Am I right in
saying Norton and symantec are same thing? Off to visit Mum til Wed so hope I can do something when I get back. Thanks

Yes Norton and Symantec are the same. Have you tried to uninstall it properly?

The message I would imagine is just a warning - that if you remove norton you will not be protected. But if you say you have Mcaffee installed then you should be okay. I find it a bit strange that you have TWO virus checkers on your computer - in my opinion they would always be fighting each other to scan files at the same time and I can image the computer reacting badly. You should only have one viruschecker on the computer so would be best to remove one in my opinion. If the message comes up again when you try to uninstall - read it carefully as i think you should find its a warning and you should still be able to proceed
with the uninstall

I'll second the comments from Richard - two A/V programs on one computer will cause all sorts of problems.....
Below is a link to the Symantec site with instructions on removing Norton products http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2005092709200113?Open&lg=en&ct=uk Any problems post back here Mike - thecomputerman |

Thanks. I've just tried your link, Mike. It tells me to do what I've already tried. I don't think I've actually got Norton on machine -
we've never registered and the only Norton/Symantec I can find on control panel is Symantec live reg but it won't let me uninstall saying unable to
uninstall because Norton internet security and virus protection needs it. Sorry,I'm not very good with this tech stuff.
