I found that leaving the heating on all day, was cheaper than it coming on at 8am going off at 10am then coming back on at 4pm and going off at 11pm, as once the house is warm, the thermastat can be turned down and the heating is just ticking over, I found this out when I was on my own, oh didn`t believe me until he tried it, as we have an aga, it is on alll the time, only off one day a year for servicing, so the kitchen is always warm, easier to cook as no warming up required, can do a lot of baking etc at once, have three freezeers, two chests in the garage, and one fridge freezer in the kitchen, need these as we grow our own veg and fruit, we bulk make fruit pies, crumbles, pastry cases, home made soup, when we have a turkey, have it for two meals, the rest is made into casseroles, frozen as it is, white meat for us, darker meat frozen separately for the dogs,we always make three christmas cakes, well in advance, oh batch bakes scones, and we both make the small fruit cakes, freeze those too, we buy our bacon which is dry cured from a traditional butchers, as well their home made sausage, they have won awards for, do not buy any meat, from supermarkets,I don`t eat red meat, and oh will not have it now, he will only have Pork as that has not been "messed about with " buy chops in ten pounds in weight, then freeze, same with sausages, saves fuel and time this way, the butchers is eight mlles away from us. buy butter, for bread making, make a loaf, every other day, and margarine in bulk when on offer, same for baked beans, only good quality ones, rarely use tinned food, fresh salmon from Asda, on offer, two for £4, so savings can be made, a challenge sometimes. never buy ready meals.
free range eggs are delived every week by a farmer,
Cutting down on craft buying, have too much as it is, also I am saving for my puppy I have ordered.

I use Aldi now as well as Asda, Tesco rarely, use to only go there at one time, Aldi`s biscuits are very good,as are their cereals, their sardines in oil I buy for the dogs, going to try their dish washing tablets this week.
