Janet you should now have a paper licence plus a photocard counterpart - I'm not 100% sure if everyone HAS to have these but OH & I got the new type when we sent our licence in to change our address when we moved house a few years back.

Well blow me down - I have just looked it up and it seems that it is your photo on the card which has the expiry date - your licence as you rightly say expires at age 70 and you can then renew in 3 year steps.

So we have a paper part & a photo card part - and we have to renew the photo card bit (pay for new photo too presumably) although the licence remains in force I suppose............... But not everyone has a photocard - only if you have been issued with the new paperwork after some change or other to your licence.

Sorry if I have misled anyone - need to check this out further.

Why is nothing simple any more!
