Temporary accommodation when I first got married. We had the bottom half of a house, but it was bad. The thing that stands out for me was that my dad spent all morning cleaning the cooker only for the council officer to turn up that afternoon saying no decent people should have to use that cooker and a much better one was being installed the next morning. It wasn't ours, of course, as it went with the house, but I think all three of us didn't know whether to laugh or cry about it all. The chap offered my dad a pot of nivea, or something along those lines, for his hands too, after hearing the tale.
