Have to admit, while being independent now at my age, the thought of leaving home at 16 would have scared me silly! This is a phone in on the WS this morning, so I just wondered if it had happened to you?

I left home in Hastings at 16, having been taken by a psychiatrist who came to speak to me at my home,   I clearly remember the psychiatrist saying to me "I don't want you staying here with your mother for one moment longer" and he took me in his car straight away to to a mental hospital as I was suffering from severe clinical depression, he just told my parents to pack some things.  I was there for several months and then.I went to live in London in a hostel for the employees of Bourne and Hollingsworth Dept store. which was on Oxford Street., as I worked in the cosmetics department. I had to share a room because I couldn't afford to pay for a single room. We weren't given a choice as to who would share the rooms - which were tiny.  Both the job and the accommodation were arranged for me by the consultant psychiatrist at the hospital.
I'm 58 now and still have severe depression and the side-effects from the medication are horrendous, but I have no option. I will be taking it for life.
