Even though I did all my subjects in Gaelge all through secondary school and got the Fainne at 16 I can no longer speak it. I understand it but my grammer lets me down stringinging sentences together. I have never forgotten how to say the Our Father or Hail Mary though in Irish so if I am asked to speak it I say the Hail Mary in Gaelge. It sounds very impressive when people havent a clue what I am saying but I am usually honest with them afterwards and we have a laugh.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Glad you are feeling better now
