Bren, if I need to get Sterling from the bank they always ask me if it's for NI or the UK. I always say UK even when I intend to use it in NI because I don't want a lot of different types of notes ie: NI notes and Scottish notes.
I often end up coming home with NI or Scottish notes or a mixture of both, given to me in change. If I intend to travel to the UK I can change them in my local bank and not incur any charges. I'm not changing one currency for another, just a different form of the same therefore free of charge......at least that was the way it was the last time I had to do that.
