My Mum has it and also my ex-husband - I can't recall which is the type they can help & which they can't but Mum has the type they can't............ for what it's worth, they DID tell her that she would never go completely blind (and she hasn't) but her eyesight has continued to slowly deteriorate and she can now see very little - and all of it very blurred - but she CAN still read just a little (very large print, etc) and she gets by amazingly well.

My ex-husband has the other type and has had a course of injections in the eye but I'm not sure how much that has helped - he lives in Oz and we don't e-mail all that often so I don't know how much effect they have had.

Mum was diagnosed very late too - seems her original optician either ignored it or missed it and she had gone to him for at least 30 years.

So sorry your husband has the same problem - Mum manages very well but gets very frustrated when she can't see to do the simple things that we all just do without thinking. I hope he can find lots of ways around any difficulties he has - Mum became quite inventive!

Hugs to you both - and you are entitled to see the old Opticians records to see what is noted........
