Not a lot. I have only ever had an under the counter sized fridge, but I do have a proper larder cupboard which is perhaps what many homes don't have these days.

In my fridge, bearing in mind that I don't 'cook', I just make food, on the top shelf is wine, cider and lager which just sits there just in case, I don't actually have a drink very often, perhaps once a month if that. Next shelf I keep a few tins of meat, like Spam, corned beef, ham as when I eat one of those I like them cold. Next shelf has some cheese slices, real cheese if I have some and packets of cold meat for lunchtime sandwiches. Bottom shelf has any uncooked meat or fish, or if I have cooked a joint or chicken then the remains of that, in which case there will be no uncooked items so it is safe. In the door I have milk, orange juice, butter and open jam which is stored upside down when open as I rarely eat any and it keeps better upside down, it keeps the air out and you don't get a mould.
